Top 3 Favorite Kamen Riders
So, in an effort to promote the Kamen Rider series (it's NOT Power Rangers, you morons!), I've compiled a list of my top 3 favorite Kamen Rider series, as well as links to their theme songs. You people should SERIOUSLY check these out sometime, as they ooze with epic and awesome.
WHAT IS KAMEN RIDER?
Kamen Rider is it's own genre in Japan. Similar to the Super Sentai series (Power Rangers), it deviates from the team-driven heroes and instead focuses on one single person. Kamen Rider is most recognized for four major cliches that have been around since the beginning of the series. First, the hero's costume is bug-themed. Second, they transform (henshin) using a belt of some kind. Third, they ride a motorcycle. And fourth, at least one of their signature attacks has to be a flying kick of some kind.
Another major difference between it and Super Sentai is the overall feel of the show. While the sentai series is clearly more aimed at children, Kamen Rider is darker and more adult in comparison. Flashy spandex is replaced with dark armor.
3. Kamen Rider Double
Theme Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqSK5380jXk
The reason I fell in love with this one, other than the jazzy sounding music, is the fact that it plays on the whole detective/noir setting. The mysteries around the Gaia Memories, what happened to Shotaro's mentor, and the Double Driver belt. It also has quite a bit of comedy thrown in, just to make sure it's not too dark. Two halves making one complete Kamen Rider. Double. Now, count up your sins!
2. Kamen Rider Decade
Theme Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6BjJwD5B-E
Technically, this is what got be back into the Kamen Rider craze. I realize it's basically one big fan service series, but it also helps to introduce you to a few of the other Riders from the past. Not to mention the fact that the Decadriver belt, and the cards, are still some of the hardest toys to get your hands on! That says something. But what is Decade? Is he a savior? Or a destroyer? All you know is one thing. He's just a passing through Kamen Rider. Remember that.
1. Kamen Rider Den-O
Theme Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GkX_AixTZc
This is, by far, my most favorite Kamen Rider series to date. The series before it, Kabuto, was dark, serious, and epic. This one, however, took a more light-hearted comical approach. Monsters make contracts with humans to grant a single wish (sound familiar Madoka Magica fans?), and in return, the monster travels back into their past in order to destroy the future. The only hope lies in the time-traveling train, DenLiner, and it's chosen Rider, Den-O. ORE SANJOU!! Let's have a freakin' big climax!!
Now, I know some of you Kamen Rider fans are going to mock me (no mention of Kiva?! Or Kuuga?!), but these are my personal favorite picks. So, if you've got a spare moment, look up some Youtube clips of some Kamen Rider action. You'll see there's a HUGE difference between it and Super Sentai. =) If you'll excuse me now, I have to go kick someone into dust. HENSHIN!!
