Came across this on the net and want to see if anything will come of it. Since im a big fan of Roger and know others are too, I think we should do something to save him ^_^;
Being and Animator/ Artist myself. ITS DISNEY...The one force on this planet that will milk something to the point of death THEN "rebuild it" with a clone that never lived up to the name.
Roger Rabbit is a great movie, I bought the DVD special Edition, Love the character love the personalities of his friends. But honestly Dreamworks IS the only thing standing in Disney's way of Butchering a great cartoon.
If any movies or cartoons should be made..Dreamworks should be the one to do it..NOT Disney. Disney can make the rides *wants to see Bugs and Mickey Parachute drop of doom ride*
I signed up...I was kinda wondering why Roger didn't get any play. Hell if it works out in time, there might be a level in Kingdom Hearts 3. Roger as a summon....AWESOME!
i've been keeping a close eye on kingdom hearts projects and so far there has been no word on a 3rd installment for kingdom hearts game, but there is however word of participation with the kingdom hearts franchise..........but not a game!
Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming... It just won't be for awhile. In the meantime we'll have 3 Kingdom Heart 2 based games coming out. Don't worry, we'll get to the next installment before you know it. It is just a matter of time!
First, Roger Rabbit is a novel character. I read the book of Gary Wolf (unfortunately it's not available in German, and my English isn't the best) and I was surprised, not only because the movie differs so much. (In the original novel Roger dies.) Second, the movie design is done by Richard Williams, and he did a brilliant work! And still after 19 years the film looks so fresh and great, starring Anthony Hopkins and the always crazy looking Christopher Lloyd.
And I like Roger Rabbit. I loved him as a teenager! And I also did a lot of drawings of him, so many years ago. I even had started a silly horror comic with him. *laughs* But I never finished this thing. And I should draw him again, because Roger is so lovely in his red trousers.
;)
My brother is lucky - he has the old US CAV laserdisc inkluding the 'disturbing scenes'. Some copies found their way to Germany. You ever heard about it?
Well 'scenes' may be not the correct word... more hidden stills. You don't see them if you just watch the film. For example, one time there is at least one 'frame' where you can watch under Jessica Rabbit's skirt.
As I recall, a copyright dispute between Amblin and Disney concluded with Amblin owning the movie rights, and Amblin was folded into Dreamworks, so ... what's up?
When Roger was out in the Disney parks it was interesting. The Magic Kingdom's electrical Parade, Spectromagic, used to feature him as a performing character. Personally, I think that they should just share/sell the rights with Disney, seeing how no one's making money off him. To see a resergance of his stuff would give childs a chance to get familiar with another cartoon character from their parents past.
It sounds like the petition is asking that Disney include Roger Rabbit in their crappy direct-to-video productions, which isn't really something I want :<
"Who Saved Roger Rabbit" will continue to be a great movie even if Disney doesn't run it into the ground like their other franchises.
And by save you mean what? Draw needless porn of a cartoon rabbit that we all laughed at as kids? Maybe people wouldn't think of furs so bad if they stopped drawing random smut about stuff they enjoy too.
Sometimes people need to let things be. Just because there aren't sequels or cameos of Roger Rabbit doesn't mean he's a dead character. He lives in his movie, as it should be. It was a standalone movie, and should be treated as such. If anything, it was a parody, and Roger Rabbit was kind of created for the role. I don't think it'd be wise to revive the character, because the movie itself would be hard to top.
