Yeah, I see that kind of thing all over the place. I saw a lot of that at Anime North 2009 when I went there. It's disappointing to say the least. I mean, we go to these things to purchase directly from artists. In many ways, these cons are "By artists, for artists." It's kind of a degradation to resell anything unless it has been significantly altered.

the people at the table actually make some pretty damn neat bronze castings. It was sad to see them dilute their own amazing work with cheap overpriced crap

That is sad. :/ Maybe they were really hurting for money or something. Not an excuse but sometimes people do strange things when they need money.

So long as there is one person with that kind of money to just blow on senseless stuff there will be people to sell it.

I know I see that at a lot of conventions I can buy those same ones on ebay for 3 dollars and that's with the shipping. I mean 10 might be reasonable or 20 but for 45 is crazy.

Cause despite my love of see through watches, I TOTALLY agree with you on that. I've found the watches they were selling for less then $15.

Someone else said that these people make their own bronze statues, and I really question that after seeing them trying to sell these watches for $45 And PAINTED PLASTIC GOGGLES for what, $60 or something?
(Though I don't mind the person on the next row selling the same painted goggles for $15!)


On Steampunk: I think people are forgetting the "Form Meets Function" aspect of it. Yes gears can look cool, but as others said plastering an object with them does not make it Steampunk-- that just makes it tacky.
