Why do we care about style? I mean... like let's say for instance, puns. Who the fuck uses a pun? And what does it add?

When you refer to style, that usually is a measure of asthetics, but a pun is a feature of writing, so I think this question needs to be changed a bit.
You are saying why do we care about superficial features of a narrative?
