The best-laid plans of mice and men...
I had the best of intentions this weekend to call people, get out of the house, and do stuff this weekend. Really. But, y'see, A Dance with Dragons arrived Saturday, so what's really been happening is I've been reading that and sleeping. I've been waiting on this book for YEARS. (Though not as psychotically as some, kthnx crazy internet people who start blogs in order to whinge about GRRM's slowness. o.o;; )
It's actually slower going thus far than expected, but I am still pretty near the beginning. Also, I'd forgotten how much I'd missed you, Davos... and I'm not too keen on how the author's handling the "skinchanger" worgs, yet. Though not quite as "meh" as his coldweather zombies, of course, since they have fuzzykins CRITTERS, durhurr, which always makes me more sympathetic toward characters/people, of course. Though I do hear some vague rumors that there will be dogs as well as people abused a lot more in this book, which could be pretty cringe-inducing. (Not that this author was EVER nice to his characters either four-legged or two, but the kids and even more especially the wolves and other beasts hovering in the background have mostly gotten off more lightly, or at least died quickly in the few cases that's happened in.)
So much for social interaction. X 0-D Maybe I'll make myself do some chores at least... the rat cage needs a scrubbing out, and there are boxes I should get around to unpacking but may-or-may-not. Laundry also needs to be done way too frequently here, bah. Not helping that all that zomgHOT weather is making me sweat through everything I own way too fast, too, though it still doesn't compare to some of the places I've lived. I probably SHOULD take up swimming again.

I've picked up a book I've wanted for a long time recently as well (The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood). Since I'll be in that mountain class, I wanted some books for reading during down-time. I'm truthfully looking forward to reading it more than the class itself. :P I'll look up a Dance with Dragons though!
Long-awaited books = <3. I'm still impatiently waiting for ANY news of the third of my favorite author Robin Hobb's latest trilogy, d'awwrrr. She just released a book of short stories but it ain't stories I want, it's news of my favorite little deformed dragons, lol. <.<;; Ah well, I have a LOT of other books I need to read still too. Everything reading-wise has gotten put aside in favor of Dance right now.
Your wanting books to read up in the mountains is reminding me of when my little brother brought a stack of books to Boy Scout camp, hehehe. ...And how upset he was when he realized this meant that DIRT would get on his precious books (to be fair, some of them were very spendy colorful hardbacks like the D&D sourcebooks, but STILL--that's why you don't bring nice copies of those things on campouts, lol). Reading in the mountains sounds like a heavenly getaway, even if it's between classwork. Ooooh.
If you're looking up Dance, look up Game of Thrones first and start there. X 0-) GRRM writes pretty atypical fantasy books, I'll warn ya.
Sheesh X 0-) it's been a while since I reread the rest of them and I can never keep track of what happens in which book. ;.; I can remember where most of the major characters are, most of what they've done, etc. but not when.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing the interplay between Tyrion and a certain knight, now, though, onscreen. *waggles eyebrows* If the HBO series lasts that long. ...It'd better! (And GGRM had better NOT kill Tyrion. If he does then *I* and a lot of others will really want to kill HIM, most likely X 0-D But I think you could guess he was a survivor, lol... intelligent enough to be just the right amount of ignoble. ILU, Tyrion, even if the fates do not. X 0-D ) Tyrion is the one character I definitely CANNOT get the actor's portrayal out of my head for; now and forever he is going to remain Peter Dinklage, haha. Good thing HBO cast such awesome, awesome people so perfectly for the most part.
