America the Prison
America had 2.24 million people in prison at the start of this year.
Percentage wise, that's 6 times more than China, 9 times more than France and 3½ times more than Iran and Libya. The highest in the world.
This figure has increased 500% since the mid-70's and it doesn't show signs of stopping.
The statistics also show that black men are 6 times more likely to end up in prison than white men and that 8% of all black males between 30-34 are in prison at the time of the survey.
