Parents and Furries

Man it's so weird to me when I see a story or a journal or something where someone is complaining that their parents hate furries and hate them and they're gonna be kicked out for their art. Does that.. really happen?
I've never hid my art and hobby. And never had much of a problem with it. Well sure, every once in awhile my friends and acquaintances who would give the whole fandom a terrible time for awhile before getting bored of it, but it was never directed at ME personally.
Yeah, I know I had a bit of a different time with my dad being a comic artist already ("I know about the sex stuff too, but that's everywhere, you should see some of the creepy superhero fan people I know.") but STILL. Is it really that bad? Or is everyone just exaggerating because they want to feel persecuted?

I get jokes about being a disgusting furfag and dogfucker jokes, and my parents were like lolwut when I went to AC, but I've never had anyone seriously judge me negatively for it.
I don't get dogfucker jokes. I get sparkledog jokes from my sister, but only until I start dissing on her lolita obsession.
JUST MAKE A SPURKLDOG THEN. :V :V :V
Oh also I had my mom ask me that question too except she didn't say yiff :|
I'm not saying it's necessarily right or wrong, or that it's common by any stretch. Personally, I've never seen it happen, and I've never gotten slack for being a part of the furry fandom. I get the occasional nag or joking shove, but I've never really gotten reamed out for it. So I can't say it if actually DOES happen, but it wouldn't surprise me on a more extreme level. People get up in arms about the dumbest shit in the world, even when it comes to morals, their lifestyles, and their children. So it just wouldn't surprise me.
That being said, most, if not all, of those fourteen year olds on this site who claim it are probably enjoying their persecution complex and the attention it brings.
There's aren't adequate words to describe how jelly I am.
Although, to be honest, my mom would probably love furries if I exposed her to the non-sexual side of things. She wants to be an elephant. ._.;
Furries who say "MY PARENTS ARE KICKIN' ME OUT CUZ I R FURRY" are usually being "kicked out" because they expose their parents to stupidity, like fucking in murrsuits or running around town with an ear and tails claiming they're real and that they truly are the animal that they chose to represent them. Their parents have nothing to go off of except the suiting, the ear and tails, the "yiff" and "murr" words that they eventually find to mean something sexual. So they just assume furries are disgusting and they don't want their kids around if they're gonna be gross.
There's also the furries that think they need to hide it; even if they're just in it for the art, they make it a lifestyle and then hide it. Then their parents are like "WHAT THE FUCK IS A FURRY?!", research it, and only see the horrors of the fandom.
My mom KNOWS I'm a furry. I explained furries and furfags, and then that what she saw on CSI was somewhat accurate. She didn't care. At all. She was like, "If it makes you happy, whatever. Just don't do it in front of me."
