The Next Big Thing

Welcome to the Journal of OtakuMan24 Game Player. Hope you're ready for rants and ravings on video games and other miscellaneous topics. The past few months, the fandom has been dominated by ponies. Pony-sonas, Pony fan fiction, Pony music videos, you name it. With fans eagerly awaiting Season 2, something's bound to fill the void and give fans something to "Ooh" and "Aah" at.
Enter Thundercats...
26 years after the show premiered in 1985, another staples of the 80's has returned in a relaunch that's set to take the fandom by storm.
The new show is animated by Studio 4°C, who did awesome work on numerous anime and USA collaboration projects (Halo: Legends, Batman: Gotham Knight, Animatrix) as well as video games (like "Catherine" which was just released). The animation is pretty, crisp, and definitely of high quality.
The voice acting is also excellent too. Will Friedle, the guy who voiced Terry McGinniss on Batman Beyond as well as numerous other roles, will be the new voice of Lion-O: the protagonist and main character. Even more impressive is that they got the ORIGINAL Lion-O, Larry Kenneth, to come back and provide his voice as Lion-O's father: King Claudus.
While I never thought about the old Rankin-Bass show's voices that much, hearing the original Lion-O here in this show definitely strikes a chord. It's probably part nostalgia, but also likely because he WAS Lion-O, and his experience helps add a sort of "King-ly" tone in his lines. Listening to him makes you think "Yeah, that is the voice of a King!"
The other voices are really good too. The only voices that seem "off" to me are Wily Kit and Wily Kat. For some reason, I think the two voices should have been reversed. To me it sounds like Wily Kit (the girl) has a slightly deeper voice than Wily Kat (the boy). Maybe it's just me.
Anyway, having the seen the first episode, I already predict that as the season continues, I expect this to be the new thing to make the fandom swoon. I'm sure the ponies will still be popular, but a battle of 80's franchises is not out of the question as far as I'm concerned. Already, fans are beginning to do what fans do and start mashing things up:
So this should be an interesting next few months as the show that helped a LOT of people get into the fandom (You Cheetara fans know who you are) sees a revival that so far is looking VERY promising.
And for those of you who are too young to know just what the flip I'm talking about, here's a primer from everyone's favorite Internet Celebrity: "The Angry Video Game Nerd".
Now it should be noted that the new series does not follow the same plot as the original show, but will have a number of similar characters, elements, landmarks, and more.
And Snarf doesn't talk in the new series.

If you haven't caught the premiere episode yet, I highly recommend giving it a watch. The show's looking really good, and you can watch the entire first episode on Cartoon Network's website.
So what would launch a GOOD generation of furdom?
Lessee *gets out reference guide*
Ninja Turtles?
Bucky O'Hare?
Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa?
DuckTales?
perhaps Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo?
Or is there anything that CAN launch a good generation of furdom?
Bucky O'Hare had Jenny
C.O.W. Boys had Cowlamity Jane amongst others
Ninja Turtles had April O'Neil, although she was human...
and unfortunately, Usagi Yojimbo never had its own cartoon series. (Outside of Ninja Turtle cameos, which is a shame)
The closest thing to an attractive female in DuckTales was Magica DeSpell, but given the fact that she was more duck than human, as everyone was in the duck-verse, I don't think she counts.
Yet DuckTales was definitely good stuff. One of my other favorite internet celebrities, the Nostalgia Critic, recently looked at the first 5 episodes to see how well they hold up today.

After all, Uncle Scrooge inspired George Lucas when he made the Indiana Jones films.
Perhaps not, unless someone chairs a "clean" furcon.
So.....furdom will continue to be the laughing stock of fandom, much like Trek fandom was the laughing stock. I keep getting this image of me out somewhere in the desert like Monument Valley in Arizona. I'm just out there when a helicopter shows up and someone jumps out to inform me I have to come with them cuz I'm one of the only people who can saved furdom. The conversation goes:
"Y'gotta be effin' kiddin'. I quit furdom a decade ago."
"That's why we need you."
"Nar,,,y'don't need me. I'm too contr'versial. Too extreme, Too far to th' right. I didn't draw porn. I didn't take it up th' ass to git 'long."
"That's why we need you. You're one of the very few who didn't sell out. You could help restore order to furdom."
Addlesee inhaled grimly, deeply on his cigar, his eyebrows gathered like thunderclouds.
"What's innit f'r me?"
Although this current gen person that wrote that was referring to greymuzzles plural. Any idea who else they may be referring to?
As for the story....heh...the utopians wouldn't like it. It'd probably unleash a bigger stink than the Great Unwatch Me Controversy.
