When a stray cat had babies in my shed and basically on my lap...she was purring the entire time. No way she was purring just cause she was happy. Poor girl was really stressed to the max.

I have to agree that purring might be a comforting mechanism. Might also be something for the kittens to hear when they first come out, but I think they are deaf right? I am so out of it this morning I cannot remember.

I'm not sure. I don't know much about first-born kittens, but I imagine that they are not deaf, since they are more likely to be blind due to eyes being closed and all.

lol most things for cats seem to revolve around their mother/baby relationship, so it cna be carried from that, whether it is a noise to comfort us or to comfort them X3

I just put in on google 'why do cats purr', then I looked at a couple sites, cuz I like cross-checking to be sure I see things that are correct, and a lot of them mention actual scientific studies on that. I can't even begin to fathom how a vibration promotes health and bone density, but it makes me wanna purr XD

it's called harmonics (or maybe just acoustics). it's nothing new as a theory if you've studied it. a lot of ancient societies (like egyptions and indians (not native american's) used it for all sorts of stuff like healing. buddhist monks technically use it in their mantra's for meditation focus and rejuvenation of the body, mind, and soul. a lot of these things are blindly discredited by modern science but as more research is put into it, more facts are being proven true and the more modern science and medicine is beginning to pale in comparison to ancient ways of life (like what you find in things like traditional chinese medicine).

I've always personally preferred any type of healing that didn't have to do with cutting you open or sticking chemicals in you, but that's because I'M A HUGE HIPPIE and uuugh organics + anything other than what is called 'modern medicine' sounds better. It just blows my mind that it actually helps things like bone density. Otherwise, I can believe in mind-over-matter when it comes to healing. It's just when scientists start agreeing it's weird.

ahh.... we think the same with healing. since i graduated college in december, i've been deeply studying chinese astrology and anything related to it. it's already got a connection to their traditional healing methods in how it relates the elements of earth, fire, wood, metal, and water to different organs in the body. in one tv documentary i watched i was glad to see a western scientist talk about how the elemental connections the chinese assign to organs and the body are actually 100% accurate to how a western physician would administer treatment for surgery or simply recommending medication. the way the chinese would see someone with a sick liver (liver is a wood element organ), would be to look at how their other organs are doing. if the problem is that the liver needs more nourishment, they might recommend eating or drinking things the will helps clens the kidney (kidney is a water element organ). the chinese reasoning for this is that water helps to strengthen wood much more than any other element, and a lack of flow in water chi was part of the cause for the liver's bad health. they may also recommend not eating or drinking certain things if they see that one element is overpowering another. perhaps a bad liver was not because of weak kidneys (too little water chi) but from there being too little wood chi in the liver. liquor (something that is probably water elemental) would likely be the cause since it was diverting flow of chi into the kidney's and away from the liver, thus strengthening water and weakening wood. a western physician would see this differently but they would diagnose it the same. the chinese even used this in surgery and know that keeping one elemental organ alive would help save another simply because of the elemental affinity. western surgins have the same outline for organs when performing surgery. the same organs the elements would say to keep alive to help another are the same that western medicine would also be paying close attention to.

I figured this out when my cat was purring while in labor. I was so confused. :P Kitties sure are awesome~!
