Dude, this'll sound hard, but I think it's for the best: you dont want a drug-dealer for a friend. He might've said to you that he was doing it because he needed the money, but there are better ways of getting money. You don't wanna get mixed up with drug-dealers and so on: It's a slippery slope that's all too-short, get involved with that sort, and you'll end up some serious trouble, and not just with the police.

Just think of it like this: It was him, not you, that broke the law. Be glad that your family found out and turned him over to the police, rather then some-kind of ganger turning him into a drugs-baron and ending up being killed.
