Driver: San Francisco - Impressions From the Demo
14 years ago
As some of you may or may not know the demo for the new Driver game came out today. Now I've been playing Driver games since the first one came out for PlayStation. The first two were fucking amazing, but after that its been crap after crap after crap. I was really hoping this one would redeem the series but sadly I do not think it will be so. First off the graphics are really sub-par. The car models deform nicely but they all look rather plastic-ish if you ask me. The driving itself is fairly decent but is waaaaay more arcade-y than the others in the series. However, the biggest qualm I have with the game is this whole shift nonsense. Basically the story is Tanner (the main protagonist throughout all of the driver games, in case you didn't know) Survived a near death experience and can now posses people at will but for some reason only if they're driving a car. Now as retarded as that sounds it get even worse when you find out that THIS IS THE ONLY WAY FOR YOU TO CHANGE CARS IN THE GAME! That's right no on foot action, no guns, nothing. Now I understand the a game called "Driver" would be focused mostly on driving, but this whole shift thing is a fucking stupid premise and to me shows inexcusable laziness on the part of the developers. They've had 5 YEARS to work on this game and this is the best they could come up with? Jesus titty-fucking Christ man!
Sorry for the rant, I've just come to expect a lot more from my video games than shoddy graphics and stupid gimmicks - especially when its a series I was so fond of as a kid

Well all new cars are looking plasticy these days. Either way, I'm not shelling my money out for it, shift is just freaking ridiculous.

It really is one of the top 10 stupidest things I've seen in a video game...

First Driver was Good. Second one was okay, but glitchy as Hell (clippings, lags, "reappearing" roads). Third one definitely sucked terribly. Fourth one was definitely playable, not great but alot better than that migraine Driv3r. They are surely flip-flopping here, what is going on?

Laziness pure and simple.

Well, looks like the studio's got overwhelmed with angry gamers. Driver got delayed.
