It actually was a lot more work than it usually is, but it was worth it. Elijah's a great client and he and Pyro were deserving of all that extra detail!

Once you get the right meds, the whole world seems straighter and less chaotic. I used to get panic attacks and meds helped me get over them.

The sad thing is, I can't tell my dad. He's been telling me to "avoid the chemical route at all costs" and I don't know if I can bring myself to tell him I went ahead and buckled. I cried on the phone to him about a month ago telling him I really thought I needed to and he seemed to understand, then, but he's gone back to asking me not to, and I love him so much that I'm not sure I can bring myself to tell him unless I've already had proof it's REALLY helped me, so I might need to wait >.> So that's a bummer.

Let him see the change it's made for you. Give it time. If your life improves and you feel happier, it will be much harder for him to maintain his unrealistic stance. His love should eventually override his opinions.

It's not totally unrealistic, mind; Dad just has always been kind of skeptical about mental imbalances or disorders. He doesn't believe in depression, bipolar disorder, ADD, etc; he just thinks people need to make a life change. And for a good number of people, that IS true, but that's what makes it so hard for me to convince him that in my case, with ADD, it's actually a very real thing that I need help getting over. So these meds should help me build good habits that will get me to a point where I won't need them -- you know, the "normal" that is easy enough for him to attain but that I kind of gave up when I didn't take very good care of myself. Thank you for the advice and the well-wishings, I really really appreciate it.

Yes, I do think your dad has a very good point. If I hadn't changed my life and the way I think, I might not be alive. The thing that many people do not realize is that a mental disorder can cause chaos that is so powerful that the person with the disorder is unable to make enough sense of the situation to change it. I was drowning without drugs and I didn't even know which way was up. I only figured out which way was up when I started taking meds.
