I think that's a general problem in a lot of different social circles. Seems like it's one of the few traits that geeks share with non-geeks.
It has various forms.. it's also called "don't snitch on your friends." "Don't testify against people in your squad/department/etc."

Yeah, it's pretty bad. I know there're a few online who believe it so badly that it makes me feel like watching a trainwreck-- if I complain, it's disastrous before the crash in the first place. :X

All very valid behaviours to be aware of. I'm guilty of 1 and 5 but I'm conscious of this and I've been getting much better at managing it.

Well, good work! I know there're a few I'm guilty of, too. mostly due to guilt described in the article. (EG: Happened to me as a kid..)

Yeah that's the strong part of it. The "It happened to me, and I never want to see it happen to anyone else" behaviour.

... sounds like a great list of rules that have more proof of exceptions than running tallies.
