You might try the Dungeons and Dragons books, specifically the Draconomicon, if you can get your hands on it. May be of some use. :V

I has the book! Been using it for a while, first doing every one of the tutorials then going back through and drawing literally everything I see to get some practice in. =p

The thing about dragons is that you can make one out of just about any animal. I saw an excellent one made from combining horse parts with crocodile parts.

That's really clever and probably makes a lot of sense given where they came from, imagination-wise... :D But this one will need to be fairly iconic, you know, sort of trope-y without being too obvious. Maybe I can work in a few choice unique details!

Mostly, my advice to you is visit your local library (thank you, LeVar Burton) and go into some serious research of medieval illuminations. Also, look at some renaissance art depicting either St. George or St. Michael the Archangel. They get dragons a lot. The typical European 'OMG it's eating everything' was based on the biblical description of THE dragon in Revelations, Leviathan in the book of Job, and other such nasties. They usually had bat wings, scales, and a size that would make a cathedral small.

Just bear in mind that most such illustrations are... how can I put this... very... hmm. Representative. Even late-medieval artists like Durer didn't exactly draw thing to scale... and Durer drew 'from the quick', rather than using his imagination.

Yeah, absolutely. but maybe it'll give me a few off-the-cuff inspirations, small things to throw in, like different types of frills or face types. I've noticed a lot of old dragons have more lion-like features, which I probably won't implement, but it might give me some places to embellish.

Dracopedia by William O'Connor is one of my favorites... it helps with looking at dragons as actual creatures and determining how to build one based on environment.
