College! + Failureness
Well, my summer is officially coming to a close (my first day as a college freshman is tomorrow) and I barely managed to doodle anything during the past three months. -__- Normally I'd feel disappointed in myself for being a lazy bum and not finishing drawings I owe people who have waited MUCH too long, but I'm actually more annoyed at my laptop for being incompatible with my tablet's pressure sensitivity. I tried drawing last night on my desktop computer and for an entire hour after it started up, I had to deal with a horrible two-second lag whenever my pen touched the tablet. What. The fuck.
So basically, don't expect much artwork from me in the future. D: I want to draw, I feel like drawing, I -should- be drawing... but I'm not gonna put up with that aggravating bullshit from my computer. It's not worth it. So I probably won't bother to use it unless I'm in an especially masochistic mood, leaving the computer at my dad's house as the only computer available to draw on. And I only visit his house about once a month. :/
One option I have is uploading WIPs and sketches that I normally wouldn't post to FA to the personal website I'm currently developing. That way you guys can check out what I've been doodling and you won't have to endure 3-4 month periods of no activity before I dump a dozen drawings into my FA gallery. Good/bad idea?
I do have a few doodles I can upload now, so I'll do that this weekend if I have time. :P But for now, I'm focused on college. It's still so surreal that high school is a thing of the past and I'm now going to be a student at one of the largest universities in the country. Junior high and high school drag by so slowly, but in retrospect, it's like a speedy blur of awkward socializing and homework assignments. And now... college. o__o That thing that happens after high school, that you anticipate going to throughout your childhood... but it never really sets in that it's actually happening until you're literally days away from becoming a college student.
The good thing is, I'm relatively happy with my schedule. I have over two hours between classes for lunch -- perhaps I'll bring my drawing folder and actually doodle ON PAPER for once. >:3 I haven't done that in a while. Maybe my tablet being incompatible with my laptop is a sign that I need to draw more traditional art? Of course, I can't scan anything I draw on paper because my scanner is broken, buuuut we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Enough rambling for now. Anything going on that I've missed? I haven't talked to you guys in a while. :/

FA+

Sorry to hear about your tablet difficulties! I can barely draw when there's no delay, so I can't even imagine trying to draw with a 2 second delay! Aside from the standard uninstall/reinstall/update stuff, I dunno what to tell you about getting your tablet working right D: Question though: Why wouldn't you upload WIPs to FA? That's primarily what the scraps section was made for, after all. Regarding a scanner, do you already have a printer? If not, I'd recommend getting one, and it's nearly impossible to get a printer that's not also a scanner nowadays, so that'd cover you. Otherwise, I could look up what scanner I have; I think it was $20-30, and produces pretty good quality scans, so it'd be good and cheap.
As far as I know, not much's happened on FA in the past few months. As for myself, I've been up to little more than failing to motivate myself to work on programming; instead, I've been focusing on planning everything necessary for me to graduate. I went to England about a month ago, thoroughly enjoyed checking out cities and spending time with friends there, but I didn't do anything there specifically worth mentioning. That aside, I've got about a month 'fore I move into my first apartment, then a week before my classes start up! I decided at the last minute that I couldn't stand living with my roommate anymore and got an apartment XD
It's pretty much impossible to draw with a 2-second delay. Usually when what you draw finally appears on the screen, it's not even in the right place. D: I'm not a big fan of uploading WIPs -- I tend to keep a WIP image of each of my doodles on my flash drive, but I don't upload it until I've gone back and entirely finished it. I use my Scraps gallery as a place to dump images that I'm not particularly proud of; basically, I showcase my favourite drawings in my main gallery and place everything else in my Scraps.
I do have an HP printer/scanner, but I've had difficulties with it ever since I bought it some four years ago. :/ Pretty much every time I turn the damn thing on, it runs the printer's installation program and re-installs the entire thing. I have over 20 copies of the same printer listed because of it doing that, yet only the most recent copy works. The scanner used to work perfectly, but a couple years ago, the image-editing program that automatically opened whenever I scanned something suddenly stopped working and started giving me error messages; since then, it's stopped scanning things completely. I press the Scan button and nothing happens (but it still prints stuff). I do have the option of taking pictures with my phone and sending them to my email, however.
I'm now taking a Java programming class. :3 I'm a little nervous, since I have no experience programming besides some basic HTML knowledge... and you can't even really call that programming. But I guess I'll find out if I'm good at it once I've had the class a few more times -- today was my first day. And good for you! Having a roommate would drive me freaking nuts. xD I -almost- ended up living on-campus, but I figured it wouldn't be worth spending an extra $18,000 just to live in a cramped room with another person I don't know, when I'm perfectly happy living at home. I even got $1,500 BACK from my scholarships, as opposed to the $6,000+ I'd owe in student loans and work-study if I'd chosen to live on-campus. And I have another $1,500 on the way next semester.
Also, damn you for going to England! JEALOUS TO THE MAX. D:
Honestly....I don't think college is all that hard but it is FUN/BULLSHIT all at once. Not as much HS drama but you'll enjoy yourself becuase you're going for YOU, not becuase you're required to go. You know?
Sorry about the lappy/tablet thing.... maybe you can get new stuff for Christmas, or hope you do. Or fix the current problem. (I can relate with faulty internet connection...kinda xD)
Now. Bring on the filthy/clean smut. I miss it.
Bahahahahahahahaha!
YAY FOR SMUT!
Bah. College is epic win :D
I hope it's more reasonable than high school. -__- I got really tired of having repetitive textbook homework every night in math, etc.
Math....hmmm I've only had one mah class in college where we didn't ha e homework due. Most of the other ones we did but the homework set was rather small. If you're going for the heavy sciences, they assign homework but never have it due. If they ever do that, it means you should do the HW. Believe me...they did it to me I'm Inorganic and Organic chemistry D: it made me very sad. :<
But I'll warn you that even though you have less time actaully in class, you're probably going to have a lot more homework and studying to do than you did in High School. That's how it was for me, anyways. I'd study 12 hours for a test and still get a D on it. :/
Just only take the minimum amount of classes... if you take more, there's a good chance you're going to be overworked and stress yourself out. Well actually, it all depends on the kind of person you are, so that might not be true for you. xD
Ugh. D: In high school, I rarely had to study unless it was for calculus or English. I hope I don't have to study for every class, I'll die. X__x I tend to either procrastinate studying, or say "Fuck it" and not study at all... so yeah, I'm screwed if I have to study for 6 hours a day or something.
I prefer the least amount of work possible, so that sounds good. x3
It depends on your teacher, too. :0 Some will actually be awesome and give you awesome study guides. But... most of the time, you pretty much have to review EVERYTHING yourself, from notes you take in class or from reading (I'd say class notes help a lot more), since you don't know exactly what will be on the test.
But if you're someone who retains information really well from hearing it, writing it, or just reading it once, then you might not have to study that much. I'm someone who sucks at tests because I have a horrible memory, so I need to actually memorize everything to do good. D:
Use the art lab tablets in the dead of night. :P Surely there is an art lab there...
