Ten years...
Well, my first ever journal here on FurAffinity ought to be an auspicious one. I have realized it has been ten years since I picked up pencil and paper in an attempt to dabble in learning to draw. And dabble I certainly have. If I had spent the past ten years actually practicing regularly as I should have, I could potentially have done quite well.
Alas, time flows by so quickly, life gets in the way, and certainly my inherent Draconic laziness plays its role to the hilt. That, and I spent most of 2009 unemployed, then needed most of 2010 to recover from that, and now I find it to be September of 2011 already. This year started quite well actually, until my former landlord discovered that I keep albino Burmese pythons of which I had not told them. *chuckles and smirks just a little evilly with his next comment* I suppose a fourteen-foot ninety-pound python makes some folks just a little nervous. (And yes, I am a responsible keeper of some fifteen years, good strong proper locked enclosures, the whole deal.)
So the month of May was a mad scramble to find a new place to live, most of it compressed into the last two weeks after an initial deal to rent an office space--as a temporary location for the snakes--fell through. But in this case, my luck--which likes to wait to the last minute sometimes, fickle and perverse entity that it is--kicked in, and I found a new place just a mile and a half down the road, owned by quite an agreeable couple who not only saw no problem with my giant snakes, but actually wants to meet them sometime. Finally, some sensible private-landlord folks again, instead of a heartless, inflexible corporate entity.
But I digress.
Back to my dilettantish artistic efforts: I feel I have improved, have learned, though perhaps more by study at times than by actual application. I am a bookish Dragon, and have laid claws on quite a few tomes which I have spent much time poring over and absorbing. But still, I have managed pencil to paper a few times, and as the last time I posted anything of that was December of 2009, I shall this long holiday (in the U.S. anyway) weekend be subjecting you all to a few of my poor scribbles and scrawlings. *chuckles* I tend towards quaddy anatomy, being one myself, and aside from that I am sure a few particular trademarks of mine will stand out, certainly for those of you who have known me awhile.
Otherwise, on this dubious anniversary, I have decided to not allow the next ten years to pass in such similar creative lassitude. I have found sparks of success here and there which I feel should be nurtured, and there is certainly no time like the present. I shall practice, I shall draw (and write!), and while keeping in mind that drawing is often fail fail fail fail fail success, I shall persevere.
And with that, if you have stayed through my ramblings, here come the postings. }:>
