Good times ahead

Happy 1984 to you guys in Germany. And as for you people who happen to be in contact with Germans and are being persecuted by your police-state governments, today is the last day you can contact your German friends via (cell)phone or E-mail without the German government agencies telling your nation's secret police forces and intelligence agencies where you're hiding, based on the data collected from your phonecalls with the Germans.
Makes you feel a lot safer, when over 50 nations have direct access to the collected telecommunications data retention data of all people located in Germany.

There is still some hope though because with the cabinet, parliaments, and president clearly trampling on our constitution, it's now up to the courts to put a stop to this.

But telecommunications data retention alone does not make a 1984. That's why Germans will get an awesome new tax-number that will stick to them for their entire life and beyond, and as a bonus Germans will have their healthcare system fucked over: For just 8 billion Euros, all your health data will be put on a central server to which all doctors must be connected. Without your "given consent" the stored data will be protected from the prying eyes of doctors, while health-insurance bureaucrats - and in the long run employers as well - will be able to deduct your health-issues from the collected data on your prescribed drugs alone because apparently that set of data is not sensible enough.
