Happy New Year everybody, here's a funny story that happened when the New Year came in the Northwest.
Being in Washington, the main event is the firework show performed on the iconic Space Needle. It's a huge event, a very nice show with the fireworks shooting off the Space Needle to music, lot's of people come yet I'm smart enough to stay home and watch the thing on my new LCD tv.
Normally their music selection is mixed, sometimes they play really strange music like the western song used for the Beef TV ad or they play pretty nice music like the Halo 2 theme song. (Since Microsoft is here.)
This year they played movie themes because of the upcomming 80th Oscars. While theme's like Star Wars and Jaws work well for fireworks, stuff like E.T. just doesn't work for me.
Anyways, when the tv crew mentioned about the movie themes...the show started and they played a piece that just wasn't made for fireworks.
So I commented that this was a really stupid idea, then for some reason...the fireworks STOPPED. O_O
There was a few minutes of akward nothing with the Star Wars theme playing, then they cut the music.
Oops...I broke the freakin' firework show!
Thankfully the fireworks came back on, though you could easily tell it was not sycned to the music. But when the theme of "E.T." came on, the fireworks stopped again!
A few more minutes later, they came back on. But this time it was really FUBARD, only one side was shooting off, followed by really small shots of others on the opposite side. Then it looked like everything started going off at once like nothing happened...of course there was no music to be heard at all.
Apparently there was a glitch in the system, they tried fixing it but that didn't work...so they had to fire everything off manually.
But either way, this was a really funny way to start the new year.
