theoretically.

hey!
so. boredom possessed me this eve, and i decided to learn some theory cause in all honesty...the most i KNEW was ttsttts. thats the pattern for a major scale fyi. so i decided i'd learn the modal scale patterns then i figure why not learn intervals that'd help me more in the actual composing process. and then i figure circle of fifths why not. so. circle of fifths is is easy. Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle that phrase is key to remembering the relative majors and the minors two. at least for me. and of course the # of sharps and flats is easy, C is natural and then increase flats by one each section to the left, and the same on the right only with sharps. i don't know really how to memorize intervals. but i know up to 6 half steps. but yanno, i do have a reference sheet to look off of when i need for composing purposes. and as for scales i now Major and minor. ill work on the pentatonic scales and the modal scales and of course, the blues scale.
in other news.
music class is starting to pick up. we got on the first new topic (for me) Chord progressions! we just did I-IV-V progressions and the 12 bar blues. and math is getting on my nerves. and cmt is just lame because he's doing stuff we did last year, which means i get done quicker than my inarticulate classmates which means i help top special needs kids that sit next to me, which gives me a headache. fun. english i always hate. and in the next paragraph ill go into more detail with that. also; have you ever noticed how on here people write like two sentence journal entrys? i find that odd.
so the english teacher. ugh shes annyoying i must say. she isn't the worst teacher but she just talks down to her students as if they ALL were inarticulate when its really only some people. she also says yeeeeeeaaaah alot. and like that. its just a bunch of little things. shes a nice teacher overal but just the talking down thing. sure your probably smarter as far as this class but i'd be smarter one in say, aspects of musical theory. like these freaking intervals...anyway. im bored anyone wanna chat?

If you want help with music theory learnin's I can assist. I only got 1 assignment in the class that wasn't an A and it was because I got parallel/relative scales confused.
...i also can't remember what scales give certain sounds. like theres one of the modal scales that sounds downright wrong and as a result uneasy. but then theres two that are sad. and then one that sounds exotic. but that second part doesn't matter; easy to find out.
but i love how my music class hasn't even got to much heavy theory yet. it means when it gets to that i'll know ;D and then i can look smarticle.
however yeah if i need some help i'll ask you :D
do you know the progression for a 16 bar blues...? i tried finding it but it was hard to find!
One good way to remember isn't by flat patterns, but by where it starts in the scale. Modal scales are, basically, taking a major scale and starting it on different notes. Dorian is based on the second note, phrydgian on the third, lydian on the fourth, mixolydian is the fifth, Aeonian (natural minor) on the 6th, locrean on the 7th.
16 bar blues, if I remember correctly, is 8 bars of tonic, 2 subdominant, 2 tonic, 1 dominant, 1 subdominant, and 2 tonic.
Triad wise that would be I I I I, I I I I, IV IV I I, V IV I I or in C major it'd be C C C C, C C C C, F F C C, G F C C. However, there are other progressions for 16 bar that I can't quite remember off the top of my head since Jazz usually isn't my strong point
one progression of 16 bar is fine xD well. at least, at's fine for me cause i can use that for the chords of the guitar and the walking or grooving bass. sure i could use the 12 bar but 16 bar seemed more alluring to me.
dorian the jazz scale? hmm not the same as the blues scale though right?
btw. if you didn't explain 16 bar in roman numerals i woulda been lost. you sound REALLY smart xD
so how would i know the key for a dorian? would it be just the key of one tone lower? c being Bb D being C E being in D and so forth?
and if so does a similar rule take place with the other modal scales? say, an e phygrian being played in the key of c and then a d phyrigan in Bb?
