RF Con Report
Thursday was pretty average as far as cons go for me. I got out of class at one and drove straight to Seatac and arrived around about two. Got registered (decided to upgrade to patron at reg) and picked up my staff patches then it was right off to theater to help setup. Theater was a light setup this year but we still didn't manage to have everything setup in time and started opening ceremonies late. Not gonna go into why that was so but I will say we will be much better next year. After that hung out with the
FurTheRecord crew in
Tigon and
bloodwiser's room. Got some funny pictures when Bloodwiser tried to mount
silentwolf and got the tables turned on him. After everyone in room got their fill of molesting Bloodwiser I went to the dance and took pics and video for a while then headed home around one in the morning.
Friday I once again made it up around two after class. This was my party day since I had no staff duties. Didn't really do much during the day. Went to swim test at two and for some reason was the only otter there. I passed and made super swimmer or something and got the silly little tag. I also managed to pull Crazy Bob Fox who was running the tests into the pool with me.After that didn't do much until the Otter Party in
RedClawtheOtter's room at seven. Was a nice party, had plenty of snacks (I was one of two otters there that didn't like sushi),
nikolai-slovackskavitch brought in some stuff and DJ'd, and of course the obligatory otter porn slideshow on the tv. I mostly just chatted for a while and took random pictures. Eventually the party moved out into the pool. I would say I swam for an hour but really I only swam for thirty minutes before the other otters found out how twitchy and squeaky I am when you tease and play with me. So I spent the last half an hour being passed about the pool and molested. I also learned you don't want to be in the middle of a raft of otters when they decide to swim over to the deep end and scatter. You tend to get sucked underwater. After that I went up the dance to check out the retro-mix which definitely looked to be a hit. Took a lot of fun video then returned to catch the end of the otter party and talk with some suiters. After that I stopped by 7/11 for a hotdog then got into bed around two.
Saturday was another day of firsts for me and a friend. I spent most of the morning simultaneuosly running the variety show rehersal and playing phone tag between two people to get a friend picked up to come to his first furry con. The initial rehersal didn't go quite so well. It consisted of me going around the convention center announcing that we had rehersals and were in desperite need of acts. By noon when we had to clear out for another event we had two acts lined up, which was no boding well for the actual show that night. So after that my friend arrived and I met him reg to get him all set up. We then spent the next couple hours wandering around the convention along with
-zenith-'s sister who was also new to fur cons. I took the time to pick up a few more things from the dealer's den and helped the converts get their tails and ears. At four I had to leave them and go back for a second variety show rehersal. This time around me and
North managed to round up a few more acts during the day so we had a total of six by five when we went to the guest of honor dinner. This was pretty mellow and quite boring this year since there was no guest roast or anything. But I still had fun and North got me my first drink ever. It was that Scooby Snack that the hotel made up for our convention. Was green, a little fizzy, tasted like pino colada, and burned the back of my throat a bit. It was probably only like a shot's worth of alcohol but was still enough to get me buzzed (sidenote: the state buzzed does not mix well with condition adhd, may limit ability to look at or focus on any one thing to 3-5 seconds). At seven we split back to the theater to prep for the variety show. In the hour before the show the we managed to pick up another two acts for a total of eight or something. The show actually went great dispite not having practiced, which I think I can attribute to North and me having a system from last year. After the variety show I took a quick swim then caught some of the Unsheathed live show. I unfortuantly didn't get a chance to have KM Hirosaki sign my books. I then finally found
oCe and picked up my awesome UV reactive badge. Spent a little time taking video of the dance then hit the sack a little early this night at one.
Sunday I got up and setup the art auction. I almost won a nice acrylic otter painting but had to give up at $200. After that had the scritch and hiss, people of course got hung up on having to voice the same opinion over and over despite being told we'd like to move on to other business. Wandered a bit after that then came back for closing cermonies. Had some problems during the show related to the GoHs which should honestly just be embrassing for the con. Sorted as many of those out as I could but I still had a bad taste in my mouth over it happening. After closing we had the theater struck in about an hour and a half (yay for puny setups?). I then went with North and a bunch of random furs to BJ's and had a good dinner. We came back to the find a official deaddog party but that was quickly shut down after some idiot threw soap in the hottub. Just kind of floated around with Tigon and Bloodwiser til one when I deemed I should drive home since I had work in the morning.
All in all I had more fun this year than I did last year. Which I believe I can attribute to all the awesome people I met and hung out with. That and the miscommunication about what hours I wanted to work helped aswell. Looking forward to next year, we have an amazing crew lined up to run theater. I think we will set the standard for fur con dances along with a few other new things we want to introduce.
