Of course Waterboarding is torture; it deprives the body of oxygen, whilst risking causing drowning shock, heart attacks, and other damaging and potentially crippling or lethal side-effects.

That, and torture is immoral, unethical, illegal, and is a tacit invitation for likewise retaliation. That it could potentially produce intelligence that would save lives is irrelevant, because there's a world of difference between those who die that deserve to live, and those who live that deserve to die --- and that difference is whether or not they choose to do something wrong.

It should be no surprise that the US military's "leadership" advocates torture, given the vacancy of moral and ethical character prerequisite to keeping their jobs for so long and getting promoted all the time.

Waterboarding flagrantly violates international law, (it would violate the Geneva Convention too, but they found a rather thin "excuse" to get out of having to follow that).
It also typically leads to poor information. People who are tortured will just say anything.

The Americans have brought these problems on themselves with their long-term foreign policy, so I expect that such treatment will not be ending any time soon.

Body isn't the only thing that matters, since it could very well cause mental damage aswell but most people (presumably those who haven't experienced it) think mental pain of others is a laughing matter as long as they get what they want... People need to start realizing that just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there.

Try being an American and listening to these wackos.

i can't say i approve of it and if anything it's a fucking retared shit. in any method of torture you only succed in a person speaking, rather they say the truth is something that's impossible to ever prove. and in most cases they will only talk and give an answer to what the person wants to hear, even if it's bullshit.

Ya know.. as a german i get teached that being guilty is a part of our culture *coughes* (yeah bullshit when you ask me but hey..)

Its just.. yeah even if there is a dangerous situation i can say now in a clear head with time to think about it (the same condition those had who were questioned) I would not approve or even USE torture myself.
Iam no angel.. i feel hatred, i feel anger and hell sometimes i just want to beat the shit out of some people but i dont do it.
For humanities sake, i dont do it. Because the civlilized state that we live in declares to us, that we HAVE to act like humans, not like animals.
And even if someone else does it, is that no excuse for making a step back into the dark medievel times.
