well I do love scifi, however I feel I haven't read nearly enough nonfiction

Depends on what kind of topics you're interested in reading about I guess.
Since I'm a history major I like read a lot of accounts of warfare and battles, books like An Army at Dawn or The Day of Battle. But this is just my preference for military history coming out.
What kinds of topics were you thinking of?

Well then a good book I can recommend is Carpenter's, Civilisation: It's Cause and Cure. After I read it a lot of my basic perceptions of society changed dramatically.

The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell.

For the longest time Donnie Darko was my favorite movie. It still has a special place in my heart, but no where near the tri-weekly watching I used to give it. I should dust the old girl off and give her a whirl or two. And in my opinion the original cut is superior in many ways (I think the director's cut has good points too).

Oh, I should probably try to sell the book too; if you don't know, Joseph Campbell was the leading expert on the examination and analysis of myth and folklore. The book Hero with a Thousand Faces basically attempts to break down most, if not all myths, into basic components, cycles, actors, symbols, styles, messages, etc; all while throwing a flavor of psychology over top of that and a dash of historical fact.

As far as non-fiction goes, books written by David McCullogh are generally good - he's primarily a historical/biographical writer, but with a tendency to write the events in a somewhat dramatic and lively way. His works included The Path Between The Seas (a book about the building of the Panama Canal), The Great Bridge (about the Brooklyn Bridge), Truman and John Adams.

As far as fiction goes, I'd suggest just about anything that Terry Pratchett has ever written. Actually, he's collaborated with science writers before to create a sort of fiction/non-fiction hybrid - chapters of Discworld fiction mixed with chapters on real world science. It's called The Science of Discworld series - there's been three books so far, with some pretty wild stuff - and some very interesting scientific ideas as well, which all tie in quite well with the fiction. Very solid stuff.

"The Design of Everyday Things" by Scott Norman. One of those books that can open eyes you didn't know were closed.

History of the American Revolution. Its history that reads like fiction!

Most of my library consists of psychology stuff and philosophy.

For non fiction, read There Are No Children Here. Incredible story, and a bit of an eye opener.
