MFF Karaoke Night or Chicago carousing w/cube as yr guide
14 years ago
Okay, so either Friday or Saturday night of Midwest Furfest, I'm thinking about taking as many friends as I can into the city to one of my favorite bars from when I used to live there. We would leave as a group from a designated meetup spot, and take the Blue Line elevated train (right outside the con hotel) 15 minutes to the Belmont stop, in the Avondale neighborhood. After that is maybe a 10-15 minute walk or a 5 minute bus ride (you can transfer from your train pass for a quarter within two hours).
Alice's is run by two darling Polish ladies, and their weekend Karaoke is outstanding. The DJ is a dour old nutcase who brings props and a fog machine. They've got a GREAT song list. If enough people want to come (and perhaps chip in a little), I can reserve the bar for a private Karaoke party. It's dead at eleven but past midnight it gets VERY busy and hard to get more than a song or two in, so reserving would be beneficial.
OR
If Karaoke isn't your thing and there isn't enough interest, we can nix the caterwaulin' and come with me instead for a guided tour of Chicago's near West-side bar scene in the Bucktown/Logan Square neighborhood. If this is your thing, please let me know what kind of bars you like, whether casual/divey or hip/dance-friendly.
I WOULD LOVE IT IF SOME PEOPLE COULD COME OUT IN FURSUITS! Let me know what kind of accommodation would be necessary (water, etc.) and I'll do my best to make it so.

FA+

My lil vote goes to dancey or dive bars over karaoke, unless the karaoke place has horrid late-90s Taiwanese pop songs (don't know them lyrics of them USA karaoke anthems) and oh god i would not want to solo Jay Chou
all this plan-making is making me excited!
The Whistler is where you exchange furtive/jealous looks at the austere tall blond chatting with his girlfriends while you sip a "signature (i.e. $8-10)" cocktail.
Bonnie's is lit like a fucking darkroom. Like, there's a single dim red lightbulb. The one time I went there I had a minor social anxiety panic, but the DJ was talented as hell, and with impeccable taste and feel for what his dancefloor wanted/needed.
The two-way is a classic, beautiful place to get shit-faced for ten dollars.
provided I can walk by then <_<
I can sing any song ever recorded Bill Murray lounge style!
Alice's sounds like a trip, but if that falls through I'm fine with anything if I'm in fursuit. (Otherwise I am the shyest Quaggy) Which I probably will be regardless if I can find someone who will let me steal theirs for an evening.
Sounds like the party of the year
if quaggy's goin maybe i should go haha, hmm
HOWEVER I opine thusly: being as there are youngbucks in our midst, and being as connie cons are most fun and active by night, perhaps a daytime trip so some of Chicago's Secret Spots might be in order as opposed to a nighttime outing. I think if you factor in a (potentially) large group of people, alcohol, unfamiliar territory, dark rooms, and public transportation, someone is going to have his or her feelings hurt.
That said I will rip the shit out of some Spacehog at Alice's or, for that matter, in a crowded elevator.
regardless, i'm sooper-excited
