sorry I'm kinda sick so I can't really get my thoughts together here

What gets me is what does it matter that I only waited 8 hours. The fact is, they said they were "holding all email responses till the next morning" which isn't very professional, especially not considering that delay could cost people going, and cost people hundreds in increased airfare (7 day advance ended the day BEFORE they replied to emails.) I did email them a day and a half prior, I know that. But its stupid to argue with a potential customer, especially about every little issue. All it does is prove that their egos run the show. And I am sick to death of ego-run conventions. They do the fandom no good.

I really think that the only way I'll succeed with my fursuit business is to go ahead and start my own conventions. I'm thinking about Reno, Portland, or San Francisco... Any takers?

Hmmmmmm... It'd be a bit of a trip, but I can't help but think that Reno would totally rock out...

My goal for room rates for a Reno furry convention (the largest in the world is what I would shoot for) is $45/night.

Imagine that. And its not that expensive to fly into Reno in many cases. Tour busses are cheap too.

This is happenening to nearly all conventions. Rainfurrest, the con with the worst themes ever and worst organization for a furry convention (because its put on by a guy who puts on Science Fiction conventions) is now taking their theme destruction to a whole new level with "Wharehouse Furteen." There are four problems: 1: it's a science fiction theme; 2: not everyone watches the show; 3: it's a trademark, one owned by the vehemently anti-furry Disney corporation; and 4: "furteen" - think fur...teen - furry...teenager... I can only imagine what the media will do with that theme. I spoke to the chair about this. He wasn't concerned about the furry teenager aspect, and said they would resolve the trademark issue by showing the original word crossed out. In legal talk, that's called going VERY far backwards. That clearly establishes infringement. If I cared about Rainfurrest, I would contact Disney about this trademark infringement now so that it could be resolved long before the convention. But I don't, and anyway, it would feed all the rumors about me supposedly destroying conventions, so fuck them, I'll keep it to myself and let Disney find out 2 months before the convention and successfully obtain an infringement preventing the convention from happening...then I'll say "I told you so" and refer back to this very comment as proof.


Sorry to hear about RCFM. Honestly, I never put any faith in anything that comes from Ohio...unless that's where General Tire has their factory...

not sure but Warehouse furteen sounds epically retarded. Mean hell the only saving grace we have here is the MFM and the weekly coffee shop meet.

I met a furry at Rainfurrest who works for the Reno Convention and Visitor's Bureau. I'm trying to figure out who it is and get in touch with him. I'm really interested, as Reno will be my main poker hangout. I'm actually wanting to head there soon, and given that you live nearby, I'd like to get together with you.

Yeah I had a friend that's been wanting me to go this year, but I can't for several reasons. That and I have been wanting to go at some point, because it did look like a fun con. But yeah after all of that I don't think I'll end up considering it anymore and just stick with the one that's a few hours drive from my house.

I have had similar run-ins with Kage and Anthrocon staff. But their responses, while initially highly resistive to even listening to my suggestions, has been productive. Uncle Kage once threatened me with legal action for comments I made about him being an alcoholic. I responded to his threat with logic. He didn't like what I had to say, but I was right and while he didn't acknowledge my input, he did heed my advice (well, I don't consider that he heeded my advice so much as he saw that my logic was correct and that my observations on the correct courses of action were accurate. I don't go around telling people they're wrong and I'm right, I go around pointing out what's right to people...)

This is why I so enjoy Anthrocon. Kage doesn't go around bashing me, and he seems to understand I don't want credit for providing feedback and insight. As a result, Anthrocon has adapted, made changes - including based on observations I have made, and is now the best furry convention there is.

I remain vigilant and will continue to suggest improvements and observe and point out problems I discover so that they can be acknowledged and corrected if necessary.

And yes, I'll see you there next summer.

People have become so shallow, so egotistical lately. I realized, this morning I think, that people think I'm trying to inflict my views on them when I offer advice or point out things that should be corrected and offer my insight into how I would do so. I have gifts that most people don't have - intellectual gifts that are so great that despite significant brain damage, they remain abilities that most do not have. I use those gifts to provide insight. I freely offer the benefit of my gifts to those around me. I don't want things done my way, not in the slightest. I am merely offering the benefit of my gift of insight and problem solving.

This fact is how I can easily separate people into "good" and "bad." A bad person, in my book, is one who is detrimental to society, an egoist. And egoists, because they think mostly about themselves and at the expense of others, have problems with their egos (egoism and egotism are not the same, but are related.) And because these egoists by definition think only of their own perspective; they accuse people like me, who are trying to help, of being egotistical - simply because they lack any other perspective.

I only wish other people could understand this. If people understood this, they would see that those who criticize me, and those criticisms of me, are from people with egotistical perspectives and that the criticisms reflect the critic, not me.

In short, I'm a good person, and anyone who says what I do makes me a bad person, is him or herself a bad person. The ironic thing is that these critics all work together to spread rumors about me by writing up crap and posting to webpages; but what they are really doing, is revealing their own true natures. This is why I have every confidence in the world when I, for example, said Further Confusion is run to the detriment of the attendees - because the senior staff were participating in a criminal effort to defame me, simply because I tried to point out that fursuiters don't like to dance to raging loud and fast techno music, and that fursuiters should be catered to at furry conventions because they provide free entertainment, and draw people to conventions. How many reading this would go to a furry convention knowing that no fursuit would be there? But Further Confusion doesn't care about that, they only care about pleasing themselves (the staff) and that means having a drug-riddle rave (tell me its not, there are drug overdoses at raves at nearly every convention.) The message that "furry is my drug" is completely lost on FC staff because FC is a private party paid for by furries who are stupid enough to think the convention is for their benefit.

I really need to borrow you to meet the CAM of my company... He fits as an egoist and and egotist. So much of the things above are true and so sad all at the same time. AC has definitely improved but I definitely got a nasty surprise when offering advice as an attendee's perspective. And not from Kage either, but from staff... The funny thing is that most of what I recommended they ended up doing anyway, but man did I get raked over the coals for trying to help. The dances... Oh yeah... don't get me started..... That was a painful thing I tried to help with too.... I still have teeth marks from that one. :) I'm just glad that it wasn't wasted time because in the end they apparently did listen to someone and hopefully I was able to help that change occur.

It really is sad that people tolerate ego issues from staffers and other defacto leaders of the fandom, such as from Mr. Dragoneer, the furry artwork egomaniac. When I met him at AC last year, my only impression of him was a fat, lazy, selfish egomaniac who could only be happy when he was surrounded by people kissing his ass. And that's what these furries egos are all about, and why convention are staffed by them - people only want to help out for glory, so they can go around and get people to kiss their asses.

We, on the other hand, just want to help for the benefit of all. We realize that benefiting everyone benefits ourselves and that benefiting only ourselves benefits no one in the end. Yeah, Dragoneer gets his ass kissed, but only by people who lack any kind of substance. And if you're looking only for the number of people kissing your ass, that's fine. But that isn't respect, its simply shallow people trying to gain something from someone whom they perceive is in a position to give it to them. So the ass kissing is reciprical. And what a pathetic show that is.

If convention staff were truly interested in improving, they would not treat criticism and suggestions the way they do, just as if FurFright were run professionally, they wouldn't make rash accusations and assumptions. It's a sign that they are egoists, because I contacted them and didn't offer to kiss their asses, and as such, they treated me like shit. The funny thing is, what I proposed would have helped promote the convention - in the mainstream media, because I would have announced at the rally that the costumers came from a little ol' convention just a few hours drive away.

I wonder if they realize that they shot themselves in the foot...

Maybe some of the staff will happen upon this while looking for more "evidence" of how much of an "asshole" they think I am... Hey, I can hope, right?

I have faith that people can and do change. Uncle Kage is still learning, but he's come a long way in the right direction. Anthrocon went from being my least favorite convention (thanks to my attending 2006, when they had the 3 mile long fursuit parade, the ONLY time I was close to passing out in fursuit!!!) to my favorite when I attended in 2010, thanks to the inclusion of family-oriented events, and the rapport that has been developed with the community.
