Azale's Quest (Previously Whu...? Hello? Everybody?) PART 4
14 years ago
(This is an interactive story or quest I would like to tell. If you are new to such stories, a good start is to supply responses to the bolded statements below. If you don't like any of the supplied options, suggest one!)
As I move down the hall, my paw curiously moves between my legs before I move on. I'm male and female - a hermaphrodite, though something told me that, for my size, my masculinity was generous. Following your advice, Manny, I continued on straight ahead of myself, my form that of a Carbuncle. My middle tail was bleeding from the tip as I heard voices down below, so I stopped to listen as I heard the one that swore earlier talking to another,
"Admiral, Subject 3-4 has escaped. He has entered into the air vents. We tried to stop him, but-"
A more gruff voice spoke, interrupting him, "You imbecile! 3-4 has probably already escaped and gone wild, thanks to YOU, sargent! Get the troops out there, ALL of them. We must find it before this becomes... problematic."
The one called "Sargent" then spoke, "ALL of them, Admiral? Shouldn't we-" he was cut off as "Admiral bellowed, "ALL OF THEM! Your bumbling has caused us enough trouble already, now GO!" to which "Sargent" meekly replied "Yessir..."
I moved on after this as I felt I had dallied too long... there was a turning to my right, and a dead end up in fromt. I saw paper and something shine in the dead end... Collecting the note and the item, which I could tell as something akin to what had hurt me but smaller, suited to my size, I read the note.
"Dear sibling 3-4,
If you find this note, I hope it reaches you well. Hopefully they haven't caught you. I have hidden this in the hope that it will help you somehow. I can hear them coming to take my freedom from me. Maybe they will kill me, like they did our brother, 4-1. I have a feeling it would be a fate better than what they plan for me. I hear them coming for me. I love you, and I hope we never meet again.
Lovingly yours,
Your sister, 6-3.
PS: If I somehow come out sane and alive, remember: Dezzu"
It looks like the PS was rushed, and unfinished, but I start to cry as I leave for the route now on my left, soon leading me to a grate on the outside, there no-one around, as I hear Manny tell me I must name myself. I think about it, but reject it: after all, I- I somehow know in most societies, children are named by their parents, and Manny, you are the first voice I heard, the closest thing to a parent I have. Two names seem to fit me, and after thinking on it I decide I shall be Azale Jeanne Askaird. That is my full name, unless you don't wish me to take your surname. Sitting there with the breeze, I realise on the back of 6-3's note is a rough drawing of a map, and notes she had written. I could see that on this map was a star marked "Us", then a nearby dot called "Our village" northeast of here, surrounded by "trees". Outside northwest was "desert", and then "mountains" in which were "dogsharks". Southeast were "birds" outside "caves", and southwest were "hyenas". There also seemed to be identified but not placed "sky dragon?" "swordfeet?", "nosefuckers?" and "suckers?". Something said that I should leave.
But where to, Manny?
=> Let Azale adopt Askaird as a surname? [Y/N] [If N, suggest surname]
=> Go northwest to Dogsharks, southwest to hyenas, southeast to birds, or elsewhere?

Manny seemed happy with the choice of name. "We would be honoured if you took Askaird as your surname, if it would help you along the way. There will be dangers along the way Azale. Head southest towards the birds, they should be able to tell you of the safest place to hide and to live."

"This is acceptable...Azale. You may indeed take the name of Askaird as your own," Manny's voice murmured in that soft all-but-whispered tone that caressed the mind with such subtle yet clear authority. "The dogsharks are to the northwest. They are fierce, but lawful and true to their word. If you can show them you are a friend they will shelter you. Watch most however for the sky dragons. They are as you and of the wind. Above all else you may trust them."
