Ok, so, yeah, I'm posting art again mostly because I want to spread the word that my new art CD 'Monster Men' will be available soon. (Details to follow)
However, I was struck while I was watching 'A Daily Show' on Comedy Central that sometimes the best way to help affect change is to be a vocal participant, rather than withdraw from an organization you have problems with. I mean, Jon Stewart believes in the writers' strike, but the best way to ADVERTISE that there's still a writers' strike is to do his popular near-daily show and remind people over and over again that there still is a writers' strike!
So, isolated from whatever other drama is currently raging through FA, I'd like to talk about the changes that can be made that would make me comfortable with posting here again.
I would like two more categories to join the General, Mature, and Adult categories. One would be for Depictions of Underaged Characters in a Sexual Situation. The other would be for Depictions of Non Consensual Sexual Situations. Just like the Adult category, a user would have to explicitly opt into seeing these types of art. If people believe a picture is not being properly categorized, they can write the artist and petition for a category change, and the admins can enforce this on penalty of a banning.
What are the cons? Well, existing art would have to be recategorized if it contained Rape or Kiddie Porn. (Ooops, sorry, UC or NC) I guess there would be some conflict in categorization if the picture depicted underage characters in non-consensual situations, but I suppose you could start an ultra-specific UCNC category in that case. It's also more work for the admins when squabbles would come up.
I think the pros outweigh the cons, though! If everybody does their jobs, I don't have to see even a pixel of the kiddy pornography that so disgusts me, and we can help people who just want to see some fun-luvin' sexuality avoid seeing any nasty rape.
Having drawn a few non-consensual images in my day, I'm not asking for anything I wouldn't be willing to do to my own work.
Is there anything here anybody else considers a good idea?

Yeah, I agree with Stewart. It's why my mate and I are still here. Why leave when we can stay and affect change.

And I know about the whole deal for Lent. I'm recovering Catholic and gave up alcohol, porn, and one year it was sex. I'd rotate.
I say enforce Tag filtering, that way you can check the boxes you want to see, and leave the ones you dont, blank. Thats what the tags are for even tho they are not used...
I dont see why the tag system wont work for this, you can properly tag things as violent, gory, underage, scat, etc, and be able to filter them effectively. Weather you want just thos, or everything accept thos.
I know why we dont have it, it a pain to code, but it is something for the back burner, we dont even have a working search function after all.
I don't know how they'd work out tag filtering though, mainly because FA still hasn't managed to get its search engine back online. And I am concerned that such filtering would REQUIRE a search engine...oh well.
Great to see you back by the way...and you always seem to renounce porn for Lent. *chuckle* Interesting thing to do, but hey, it's your call and all. I'm sure that somewhere on the 'net we'll be able to find a lot of your previous erotic work.
That said, can we expect to see any new non-erotic work from you in the coming weeks? And will this new CD be sold at FC2008 at all?

I'll be posting a few more pictures, the old 'Reprisals' story... Stuff that doesn't really belong on the 'Monster Men' disk. The CD will be sold, at least initially, like the other ones, directly through me.
I'm not much of a convention goer, though I know that's the most fertile place to sell. If I can find somebody who wouldn't mind shilling CDs for me, I'll try and get some of the new one (and copies of the existing two CDs) there for sale.

But it's being done by volunteers on their spare time, so it's anyone's guess when it might be finished. I would want to say that FA itself didn't take this long to code, but then again, no one was waiting for it to be "done" while it was first being coded.
But if a tagging system was in place, and was being utilized properly (see FAP), it'd help out a lot.
I like my adult materials, but there are things I'd live a little longer for not seeing.
It's been a long standing suggestion that "Mature" be a seperate classification from "Adult" so one could choose to exclude 'Adult' while still seeing 'Mature'.
You could lobby for a level beyond "Adult" if the admins figure out a way to implement the above, perhaps a "Extreme" or "Downright Freaky" classification?
If there was a promise of a functional tag system with standardized tags, I would still agree to this as a stop gap.

Over at Y-gallery they have tags for kiddy and rape, by checking or unchecking boxes in your personal prefs you can choose if you wanta see them. It's not adult, mature, clean, as those are more rating than anything else, but tags that edit what you see, that you should go for. Either way it's a great idea, but will require LOT of work for mods.

looks like the chances of removing cubophilia porn could be really high, although its not furry but we get the idea where its going. Especially when Eurofurence also banned cub pornography.
Personally I try to avoid any drama that may occur in an organization.
Sure, I may have some opinions on what the drama may be about, but those are my opinions and I plan to keep them as such.
But it's nice to see the return of a friend, though.
So, such filtering system, if it could be effected, would in no way limit the ability of people to post things involving rape or cub porn, but it would let those that are uncomfortable with it to keep it out of their sight. I'd say it would be a win-win situation, if it can be done.

with all the drama that did occur, why did no one think of that as an idea??? I mean there was a fair ammount of some common sense under the bull on all sides. anyway sounds like a good idea in my book ^_^
Secondly,there are plenty of sites that already do that. Hentai Foundry for one. So this is not a new idea. Also,most of the people who put up "specialized ultra porn" already use "cover thumbnails" so your virgin eyes don't have to see anything they don't want to. My advice,consider one of the other sites for your porn since we're all evil and selfish. Just in case.
Finally,I'm sure if FA *could* have instituted such a system,they would have already. And,by at least one account,they do,but noone uses it. So the olive branch you've extended doesn't really look all that impressive next to the olive tree we have growing here already.
And if any of you think I'm being harsh with Pany here,feel free to tell someone who cares. You don't burn bridges and then complain there's no way back. Shit takes time to rebuild and people are gonna watch their fucking bridges til you prove you're not gonna get all fire buggy again.

Still I personally think it's kind of a moot point considering the current stand of the admins. Ferrox seems to hold much promise but it's being done by volunteer work and not by paid professionals. So as to not stall Ferrox any further from what I gather there isn't going to be any 'hotfixes' aside from site crashing ones. Mostly because such changes would require paid professionals(which we still don't have) to work on a code that's going to be dumped anyway. Kinda makes sense, doesn't it?

Sounds like good idea. Personally I don't care about this "cubophilia drama". I do like Sephir07h. If I see pic that disgusts me(what is very rare), I just block it by using Adblock Plus.
But yes, even though there's ways to filter certain themes, not everyone sets correct themes, and there could be three or more, and if you happen to use one of your customs for 'cub' then, well, it'll likely slip through the filters, so I think a separate catagory for such things is in order.
So would making one able to pool together some of them, so you can have 'adult cub non-con' or adult non-con and what have you.
