Elitist Artists
Well I have had it with some of the artist, their elitist attitude. I won't give names of specific artists, but I'm going to talk about the "Elitist Artist" phenomenon. When these artist start out, most of them are good and fair people. Then as they start to get fame and more popular, they change. This is pretty obvious to all of you who are reading this, but I just vent out on this subject. I suppose it's pretty common that when someone has a taste of fame, they can completely change. There are those few who stay good and humble, since to some getting commissions and the money from that is their only source of income. So those elitst artists should be a lot kinder to their bread and butter, don't piss off your clients. There are different kinds of elitst artists, I'll try to think of most of them.
Anyway I just sick of those artist who treat us nothing more than just cattle or walking money bags, we are people (and furries) too you know. They sometimes keep delaying us for months and then just tell us they don't want to do the picture they been talking about for months. They could do the courtesy and tell us right off they can't do it, then it wouldn't be bad.
All I wanted to say is that I'm sick of being treated so badly by those elitist artist, I'm sure some of you have had similar experiences. I am not naming or saying this is about any specific artist, I'm talking about the phenomenon. If you have a experience to share here, please leave the artists name out, just tell what happened.

If artists are here to solely make money, I keep it that simple and things like elitism doesn't bother me one bit. I know that I can't be anybody's friend and I normally make friends for who they are, not particularly solely revolved around a common interest, yanno? Takes time, effort on both ends, common ground, etc...
The Popular artists would be nothing without the people who fave and buy their works, and talking down about them (even as a group) as just individuals, they'll always see it as "You may think that way, but even if i dont have your business, there will always be someone who does." we, as fans, seem to be expendable because out of the woodwork, there can be two or more to take the place of one who leaves them/stops buying their product.
All in all, i think that the popufurs should remember what it's like, or at least try to envision, how they would feel if they couldnt get something from their favorite artist, remember the little people, cuz they are who made you who you are...that's the message i'd wanna get to them.
I see LOTS of gift art from one popufur to another, and usually it can be said that since both are popufurs, they WOULD try to become friends, bonding over whatever but only after seeing that they're both skilled artists.
I may just be blind to it, cuz i only see the stuff im watching on here (rarely do i check the Browse feature anymore) but out of the popufurs i watch, i do see like 90% of giftart is for another generally known good artist/fellow popufur.
i mean, i occasionally do a free sketch for a random person, just out of wanting to know it makes them happy, I dont pocket anything for it, just the knowledge that i brightened one more day up for someone.
The ones on the business tip are the ones that you really shouldn't expect anything free from, and if they do, it's most likely a reason for it. The in-between ones are the same, but they tend to do things like cheap sketches, discounted prices or days where they offer free shit. Some artists just draw whatever inspires them or do what they like to do, nothing more lol
It does vary, where I see people offer "kiriban" or specific conditioned giftart for winning some sort of contest, or somebody that offers a free sketch day, things like that. You're proof that sometimes artists just feel like drawing whatev and offer some art to cheer somebody up, I've seen it myself plenty of times! I also've seen artists that deal with the whiplash of "offering free stuff for X, but not for me!" no matter of if it's a "popufur" or a friend or some random choice, and I can see it being a big worry for some if they do get burnt out over time. I've even seen somebody bitch an artist out over a gift given to them because "the markings are slightly off" or "the dick is too small".
There's a balance there that a lot of people just tend to stay safe with, and it's understandable though I can see your chagrin.
I cant count how many times i've asked for something small, like a sketch, only to be turned down because i wasnt "Close Enough" to the artist, or couldnt pay for it.
we're not saying that the people have to do EVERY little thing, but like...what people do with Commissions, make a list.
once it fills up, they can do them as they please, but honestly just taking EVERY little request that comes in would be unfair to the artist.
I do see people trying to get around that by offering a rally for a free pic via reblogging the original journal. It floods the fuck out of my Journal inbox quite frequently so I know there's gotta be some free stuff happening haha
I know how that is. It is annoying. Hate seeing all thse "Livestream" or "streaming" journals or submissions. Hopefully FA will get a filtering system where you can filter out journals and submissions you don't want to see.
i recently missed one by one of my favorite artists in the whole fandom, cuz when i tried, my PC shit itself.
what kinda crap is that? XD
However, if someone has gotten something from me within a certain amount of time, usually a week, then i try to pick others out of fairness for everyone ^^
That's good to do. I mean that's why I ask on said jouranls how many times someone can get things like that. IF you can only get one every so and so or one request from the artist forever. Then I ask if I can request something for someone else to give them a turn, but it's me saving their spot for them, since I know they are sleeping or at work and would love to get art from that artist.
"Hey, i LOVE to draw in my free time...how can i make money off of this thing i do for fun?"
dont you know, its not about what makes someone smile, it's about how much you can pocket off of doing something you supposedly like to do.
i had one friend who was VERY little known in the fandom, couldnt draw anything save for headshots, we were very close friends, he always talked about how he did art for fun and would never charge for it cuz he knew it was just ink and paper, and a little bit of time out of the load of free time he had...HOWEVER, i showed his work to one of my other friends who has ALOT of watchers himself...so when this other friend plugged for the first, the first got popular REALLY fast...ditched me as a friend, never did any personal pics for me again, and now will not do any art besides commissions and free art for his mate.
sometimes i do wish i still had him around as a friend, however, seeing how he so readily tossed me aside, i'd always think against that wish.
But if you ever see local fur meets, there is always at least ONE at most any meet, the loud attention whore who makes too much effort to try and look like the highlight of the entire evening. some get ignored because its clear they are just desperate, but the sly ones are just annoying cause everything they do they gotta make a big deal out of it, like getting a car, going shopping, hanging out with friends. Can you say attention desperate or what lol
They're more like business people, since they work by the consumer/product standard and they aim to please more people instead of doing what they like.
They see that there will always be more clients willing to cough up money, but they think it's harder to find people willing to invest in them and or others that make just as much as money as themselves or more, believing that shows their worth to society. (EX.I hang around with cool people, so that makes me cool.)
But a big problem is that many people will still follow them because of their "talent", even though they've done stupid things.
Like Chris Brown, Kanye west, and many other people who've done stupid things yet we let it slide.
Truthfully, they won't lose everything until they speak to people that adore them and show their true colors.
But that won't happen, since they prefer to not talk to anyone that isn't on any "value".
Though, there's nothing wrong with supporting their positive traits and despising all the unreasonable wrongs they've committed.
But, I believe people just need to keep their eyes open and not give power to someone who can't stay humble.
The only pieces I've never finished that I've agreed to are ones that canceled.
It is very sad to see how some people twist people around, string out long commissions that shouldn't take long to do at all, just to get frustrated and end it all suddenly. It gives a bad sort name for most people who are trying to truly earn their keep.
I think if an artists does this and does NOT even act ashamed of it, doesn't really apologise then yes. You better never buy/order anything from him/her ever again. Still, it could also be an accident, so I wouldn't consider this always to be a reason. Life can get frustrating, stuff can get in the way, sometimes stuff takes time.
I admit being guilty in this department myself. I once promised someone to do an art for them and it took me 2 years to do so. :( This is a reason why I don't do "free art contests" or requests from complete strangers any more. Go ahead and say this means I'm not a real artist :( I agree
