hit the F5 button after uploading it! :)

I'm not sure if the site is still messy about that or not, but you should be able to go into your user control panel, select Upload/Change Avatar, upload one (Max dimensions of 100x100), then select it. If it doesn't show up, make a hard refresh by hitting ctrl+F5 (don't know about Mac if you use that).

FA just went through, and got out of, a small move (data copying or whatever they said it was). You should have seen the mess before, it was pretty fun to play "get your stuff submitted and sit on the front page".
