So, What's the RR World Like?

Well, the Roses and Razorblades fictional universe is parallel to our own and the branching occurred in 1945.
So, at the end of WWII, something happened that gave mankind knowledge of future technologies (will not go deeper into exactly what happened 'cause that would just spoil the story). As a result, we became much more advanced much quicker. One of the first things that were done with this knowledge, just because they could, was the creation of animal/human hybrids - Animorphs. At first they were used just for show, but later gained human rights when it became clear that they had human intellect. In modern times, they are fully part of society.
Then there are Pokémorphs, which require a bit more explaining. Now, in the RR universe, we make use of the idea that the collective imaginations of sentient beings have the ability to create universes (think Kingdom Hearts). Anyway, one of the many technologies humanity learnt about from *spoilers* is the means by which to create and control stable wormholes. Now, for those of you who don't know, wormholes are trans-dimensional "windows", "bridges" and/or "gateways" to other points in space and time or even whole other universes. In the RR universe, these include "imaginary universes". Anyway, a wormhole was (or perhaps a number of wormholes were) created using the newfound technological knowledge and it (or one of them) led to the imaginary Pokémon universe. (Now, this took place in the late 1940's or perhaps the 1950's, so the Pokémon universe had yet to be conceived in this timeline. However, because it was conceived, even though it was created by those in the future of another timeline, the universe still came into existence. In other words, wormholes do not discriminate between space, time or universes. This is a theoretical fact in dimensional physics.) Long story short, humans went over and brought back specimens of Pokémon and Pokémon DNA. A group of rich people known as THEM (which is an acronym we have yet to figure out) "stole" (illegally bought) many of these specimens and used them to secretly and illegally create human/Pokémon hybrids for slave and military-related reasons. At one point, many of them managed to escape into the outside world and most got rights equal to those of Animorphs. Due to the different circumstances of their creations, Pokémorphs are considerably rarer than Animorphs.
Also, it goes without saying than racism between humans, Animorphs and Pokémorphs (mainly from humans) is fairly commonplace, but decreasing.
Now, let me get to the modern politics of this alternate reality. The Earth of RR is considerably more unified, mainly consisting of federations. The main superpowers of the day are the USA (whose borders are a bit different from ours), the Federation of Brasilia (which is basically Brazil, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay and some surrounding areas), the Federal Republic of Indo=China (basically China, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, Taiwan and the countries of the Indo-Chinese Peninsula), the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (much like modern Russia), the Republic of Nippon (basically Japan), the Scandinavian Community, the UK, West Europe, East Europe (which basically constitutes to all of Europe except for Spain and Portugal) and the Southern African Union (which is made up of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Angola, Swaziland, Madagascar and Mozambique). We haven't really decided which is the most dominant.
A political map of Earth in this universe will be uploaded to this account at a later date, along with a comprehensive list of Earth's current countries and where they would fit on our reality's world map.
As for global organisations, the UN is basically it and all but two countries form part of it. These countries are the New Egyptian Empire and what is for now known simply as "The Country" (as we haven't really been able to come up with a name for it yet). The Country is made up of bits of our reality's Kenya and Tanzania and is the second smallest African country. The land was "bought" and is now governed by THEM and is where the bulk of the organisation is based. This is also where the Pokémorphs were created and are largely still used as slaves by THEM and humans in The Country (most of which aren't even native to the area). Being very technologically advanced (though sickeningly primitive in the realms of slavery), THEM have basically managed to militarily seal The Country off from the rest of the world. As I imagine it, they would declare war upon any nation or organisation that tries to stop the atrocities they commit or even enter the country for the purpose of investigating them. A rebellion of free Pokémorphs in The Country and perhaps based just outside its borders is currently waging war against their oppressors.
As for the atmosphere of the time, Earth is quite a futuristic setting, due to the excelled technological progress of humanity. Of course, history since 1945, pop culture and pretty much all social and technological developments took place differently, even if just subtly so. For instance, the Cold War never happened (though the grudges were always there), nor did 9/11 or the Libyan rebellion. Of course, most non-weather-related natural events/disasters still took place (eg. the '04 tsunami, the Earth quake in Haiti, the eruption of Mount Saint Helens, etc.), but very effective warning techniques were developed and these events caused few long-lasting problems and few to no deaths.

Though the pokémon aspect really is just happenstance.... in that Taiyo and Blade, who are main characters, happen to be pokémorphs. ^.^
The whole idea came from Taiyo, actually. (And Marijke.)
Also, I can say that in these days of art and pokéfans, the term "pokémorph" seems to be an "anchient" term that no one ever uses anymore. But, there are various anthropormorpic or furry pokémon... A raichumorph callled ElunaOdis comes to mind.... she is here on FA.
