Kinda upset right now....
My mom had this big aviary full of birds of all kinds-mostly parakeets and cockatiels, with my dove that I've had for years and a big fat pidgeon we were given as well. Last night after some relatively warm weather we had a sudden freeze that we were completely unprepared for, and all our birds were killed but three-the big fat pidgeon, my dove, and a single parakeet. The parakeet only survived because my dove, who has babied that little blue parakeet all his life, held him underneath her wing all night and kept him warm with her own body heat, staying on the bottom of the cage instead of flying up to where she and the pidgeon normally roost, where it was warmer. I'm guessing the parakeet was too weak from cold to fly up with her and stay there instead. Anyway, the ground is not a normal place for her. The parakeet and pidgeon are completely fine, but Snowy (her full name is Snowfeather) is still very weak, still breathing but not moving around much. We don't know if she's going to make it. She and the parakeet are inside now, under a heat lamp, hopefully the warmth will revive her. She shows signs of life and opens her eyes when the parakeet starts preening her, climbing on her or snuggling under her wing. I hope she'll be okay. ;_;
[Edit]She didn't make it-I went to check on them and she had stopped breathing and was lying stiff, with the parakeet sitting next to her preening her headfeathers. If she'd just stayed up with the pidgeon she'd have been fine, but she chose to protect the parakeet instead.

-is hugged- Thanks...I just wish I would've known about the sudden cold front sooner, so I could've done something about it and saved them. Now it's just the pidgeon and the parakeet.
