Parakeets

Well, it seems that my parakeets, Pterry and Verdy, have decided they want to make eggs. Luckily, Pterry has taken an interest in the make-shift nesting box I put in there as soon as I noticed them going at it, so she'll have a place to lay the eggs. I've never tried breeding birds, but I'm hoping if I just give them food and water, the parakeets will feed and look after the babies themselves till they're old enough. Anyone have any suggestions for helping my keets out?

When I was living in Egypt, my family had some breeding parakeets. Now, I was a rather young lad who didn't know much of the business, but it seemed to me that all my parents had to do was separate the breeders out from the flock, give them a little birdhouse on the side of the cage to lay eggs in, and feed them as normal. We added three or four birds to our main flock cage.

a low level heat lamp will be good for helping to keep nasty drafts away from the naked babies. I bred lovebirds for two years and a bit. SO FUN. SO loud.. but fun!
