When I hear things like this, it makes me want to set my server up as a proxy so fellow furs can get their gaming fix... I'll have to look into making this happen.

I suspect there are things that look for that, and permaban people involved in it. I've heard things to that effect before.

Nope, they won't do anything; some games can be bought this way (but they're 3-4 times more expensive than retail), others simply won't launch if you sign into Steam from a russian IP.

I also remember bypassing the forced russian language and disabled mission in CoD: MW2 by setting a british file download server but this workaround has been fixed.

Yeah there's a lot of Dead Island being sold that way. Russian Dead Island is still in english (it's just a multilingual version that you can change in settings which language) but it's cheaper, so instead of $39.99 USD on Steam, they buy it on Steam for like $21.00 USD in Russia with it region locked, and then they make you sign on to steam on their computer through Team Viewer, so you're essiantially proxying, and then you add the CDKey and steam accepts it, then you sign out, devalidate the steam guard, and then log on on your own computer again and download it, it runs and acts like normal. It's not LAUNCH locked, just CDKEY region locked.

I imagine the same could be done in reverse, if it's not a multiplayer game, they don't usually lock the region for launching it. Skyrim can probably be bought cheap elsewhere or if you have the key you can VPN it on someones other region computer. :]
