Friendship, Whats That?

I need to ask on this one, a question from some unfortunate events.
What is a friend?
Now my question comes from this scenario, a now ex friend wouldn't accept an apologie, but to them all they had to do was apologise and I'd fogrive on the spot, but that isn't returned? Now I'm not gonna cause drama, name names or any bollocks like that but.
What is friendship about anymore when only one side does the forgiving and you get told bascially to fuck off when your in the wrong?
Is friendship forgiveness, care and being there, or is it just to have somebody talk to these days and to get rid of when it gets a little heated?
My heads a little mashed from this for personal reasons, sorry.

my example of this, is my best friend who, although he did not HAVE to, or have ANY reason too, is that he stayed with me, the ENTIRE time when i flipped out on the phone..and had the cops come over to the house and almost take me away.. he defended me, and told them that everything was under control..he took me to the hospital even tho he had dinner plans with his girlfriend.. they styayed there until my dad came by, and even then, came back to check on me... now THAT is a friend...
now, someone who ISNT a friend, was sitting right in FRONT of me while i was progressively getting more and more angry on the phone, and did absolutely NOTHING.. that person then decided to "run away" after i broke a window by going to a concert that night and avoided me for the next two days...
so givin those two examples, i hope it can clear you up a bit.. xD
as for yourself, i just say be kind to others.. even if they give you crap back.. just be kind and you will ALWAYS be the better person.. :D
A friend to me, is someone who understands me, and who i understand, someone that is always there when things get rough, someone who will help support you, will listen to you and give advice and also recieve it when they need it.
They will always smile if they see you walk into the room, greet you warmly, there the ones that can tell when something is wrong or something is upsetting you and will try to make it right however they can, sometimes this can lead to friends being stubborn and overprotective.
They will always snuggle up again after an argument, for emotions are powerful things and can cloud good judgement.
A friend is there for life, always and forever...
