does anyone know that feel...

Does it ever make anyone else feel weird to draw stuff for yourself when you're doing commissions? Lately I've found that the best way to fight art block is to put down a commission piece when my eye starts to twitch and doodle something fun for myself for an hour or two. A part of my brain knows that this is healthy because I have art add and if I don't switch out sometimes the piece declines in quality A LOT because it stops being fun. But another part of my brain says 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING GET BACK TO WORK OH MY GOD HOW COULD YOU'.
is this weird or is this within the normal bounds of artist self-hate?

But eh! It's better not to get burned out, as you'd just end up hating commissions, and to take a few hours off to work on your own thing!
Its good to let the ol brain hit refresh
But sometimes you need to take a break because it kicks you back in to your creative processes!
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
but to keep my skillz sharp I can't draw one thing (furry art) all the time!
The other thing that helps me is keeping a very, very small commission list. 3 tops, and I can take as long of a break in between as I need.
Also, warming up with sketches/inking/coloring that have nothing to do with the commissions helps me a lot.
of course, i'm always poor. the two might be related.....
my scanner should be fixed by tomorrow.
Expect to see your pony by then. I'm not quite finished with the fox though, it has grown rather intensive.
I knew you had problems with your scanner so I wasn't worried.
Intensive? :)
