That's a shame. I assume that his esophageal cancer got the upper hand. I was never a fan of Hitchens as I disagree with almost everything he argued, believed, and stood for. But he was certainly an entertaining, humorous, and witty fellow who was always interesting to listen to.
I actually tried to watch that dialogue between "The Four Horsemen" but I just couldn't find the will to sit through the whole thing. The self-aggrandizement and caricaturing of Christianity wasn't providing any valuable insight.
What you considered self-aggrandizement was really them just sitting back and having a laugh at narrow minded views.
While it was indeed caricaturing, it certainly didn't lack insight. The callous nature towards theism is a side effect of the past actions of it's patrons. You can't go around making unfalsifiable claims and expect an exemption from criticism. Yet, theists do it every day, expecting their views to be unanimous... It's an interesting form of mental gymnastics you have to put yourself through in order to convince yourself that there is a god.
Why do you do it H.S.? Why do you need there to be a god? Is it infinite complexity? Do you just not want to think life might have been a game of chance? Do you fear death? What is your personal reason for wanting such a thing?
This is a sincere question, I mean no offense by it.
