Sad Christmas
Two of the family cats might not see the new year.
Charlie, now 18 years old, had a stroke roughly 6 months ago. He's been pulling through and doing well, despite loosing his sight almost completely, but it's getting worse with him. Muscles failing, he can barely walk and the parents plan to take him to the vet to put him down after christmas.
And Roshie, 16 years, got sick now, too. The poor baby's got dropsy. The vet gave him two injections today and I have to feed him some pills. If the treatment doesn't help, it looks bad for him as well.
I know it's the best for an animal to be put down before it suffers, but I also know it'll be really, REALLY hard to do. After all, they've been around for so long.

It's SO hard to cope with the inevitable. In the back of your mind you can't help but trick yourself into believing that every pet will live forever.
Hopefully they can pull through christmas and pass calmly and peacefully on their own time.
My elder cat is 17 now and he's starting to feel it. Forgets that he has eaten, sometimes can't find the litter box, has trouble jumping the small distance from the floor to the couch, almost lost his hearing. I always worry that something is going to go wrong while I'm away at school.
