I'm just curious...why do people celebrate a holiday that has so many things about it that doesn't even make sense and isn't truly religious? Or the fact they're willing to lie to kids about there being a Santa Claus?
Had a talk with a college professor, and he even said Christmas is in 2 parts, the 'religious' and commercial. Essentially, Santa is everything on the commercial side and Jesus the religious, since it is call CHRISTmas afterall, yet the holiday is to celebrate Jesus' birth but people give presents to each other and none to him. Not to mention the fact he would've died as a baby from the cold had he been born around this time, as the Church itself only said it's Christ's birthday only to cover another pagan holiday.
A personal issue with the holidays is that people display a false kindness. I call it that because during any other time of the year, a lot of people are willing to treat others like trash and garbage, yet, when this holiday arrives, even war is put off for a day. Some say the world would be better if everyday was like Christmas because of it, and if that's the case, why not act like it is regardless of the ceremonial gift giving? Treat people right all the days of the year and all the seasons.
So I ask again, why do people still celebrate the holiday when it makes little to no sense and has nothing to really do with Jesus' birth?

FA+

A party's a party, screw the false religious side connected to a guy that if he even existed is believed to have been born in a totally different season and wasn't even called the son of god till about 200 years later [never mind the part where people tote the 10 commandments yet prey to jesus and the cross.....]
Basically, Fuck spiritual beliefs and fat burglers that reverse steal from you at night. Christmas is a pagen holiday that was originally meant to celebrate the joy of rebirth, sort of a new years deal. The christians are the ones who stole it and made it religious.
X-mas is a time for fun for me, nothing more.
1. To me, it is about Jesus, I just came back from church, and even tho I'm not the most religious person, I think it's good to remember that there was a man who said love even your enemies, even if it means you'll die for this idea.
2. No one knows when Jesus was born exactly, we don't even know the exact year, so why not create a day for it? Why do we celebrate the new year in a week?
3. Yes, tere are many things wrong about this holiday, we had a very annoying commercial here in GErmany this year stating that there is nothing else than presents and buying, that makes me sad. Anyway, I think it's a good thing showing your loved-ones that you care about them by giving them presents. Not just expensive stuff, but something I thought about, maybe even something you crafted yourself.
4. People who just act nice on Christmas and treat others like trash the rest of the year are very, very sick XD. I think such people don't understand what it can be like to meet with the whole family to sent a little time with each other, sure this doesn't need an official holiday, but it's a good opportunity.
So, I like most things about Christmas, but I don't judge anyone who doesn't like it, maybe because the commerce spoils what really cares.
