Several months ago, there was an old man staying in the hotel I work at for like 3 weeks straight once, and for several days on multiple other occassions. His wife was being treated at the nearby hospital for brain cancer. We saw her a few times at the hotel too, as well as some other family members. They lived a ways out of town, but he stayed in town to be with her every day. Eventually he couldn't afford to continue to stay at the hotel anymore, and just parked his trailer in the hospital parking lot. We hadn't heard from him again until yesterday, as he came back to the hotel on business for a single night stay. He had informed us that his wife had passed on October 1st. We sent him some flowers for our condolences. He said his wife would have really liked them.

When a guest stays at the hotel for such a long time, you really get to know them. I'm honestly sad for his loss, and I hope he and his family are doing well.
