Two questions, both based on personality:
1. What made Elias the jerk he is today?
2. Why did you choose the Fleetway version of Sonic's character?

1. Elias was, quite simply, bred to rule from a young age. I suspect the resentment towards his father led him to depose - and murder - him so as to take the throne. His daddy wanted him to be an effective ruler... I don't think he planned for it to go this way though, hee hee hee!

2. Well, I just like Fleetway Sonic as a darker, more flawed character. Of course, SS Sonic isn't entirely like Fleetway Sonic - he wouldn't be so mean to his friends(if he had any), plus he doesn't need Chaos Energy to show his darker emotions. Spending much of your life without friends or family, and treated like garbage to boot, probably takes its toll on your cheery outlook towards life.

1. The king's plan worked a little too well, perhaps.

2. Good! Mind you, I have no problem with the Archie Sonic when he's handled well, but I'll always prefer the more complex heroes.

Which leads me to an important question: what will the tone be for this series?
Light-hearted? Dark? Dark with bright moments? Light with an edge?

2. That's good! Because I don't want goody two shoes, no real emotional spectrum Sonic in this work! :P

3. Probably gray. While there's plenty of death and gloom, most of it has happened off screen. The darkest moment thus far was probably Sonic at Chuck's tombstone, and that's nothing new to anyone in the Archie continuity.

There will be plenty of upbeat moments, but of course, all good things must come to an end...

Alright, could you tell me anything about the floating island and its resident lovable paranoid sucker?
And if not, may I ask how the humans and mobians regard each other presently? You said Grimer was nearly killed because of his species, so I wondered if things were... tense.

1. The Floating Island is similar in a sense to the one from the Archie continuity - it is ruled over by a theocracy with rivals in a technological faction. Unlike all the continuities where Knuckles grew up alone, SS Knuckles will be fully aware of other echidnas and regularly interact with them. He spends a lot of his time holed up in the Emerald Chamber, obviously, but will accept audiences from those qualified(generally just the rulers of the Island).

Of course, I can't reveal much else!

It'll be a loooong time until I reach the Sonic 3 arc anyway.

2. It depends on area. The Great War, while different from the Archie one, has had the same effect of making racial tensions high. All over the world, Mobians feared their human populations would serve Robotnik during the War. It became a self-fulling prophecy in most cases - attempts to intern them just pushed them towards Robotnik's side. Right now, most humans enjoy a very privileged position. As a case in point, the Metropolis Zone(the heart of Robotnik's empire) is a paradise where humans get everything for free, but it is all built on the backs of Mobian slave labor.

Naturally there are exceptions to the rule, but in general, neither group trusts the other. Furries are crazy eco-freaks who worship trees, and humans are warmongering bloodthirsty greedy bastards who destroy the planet.
