Quicksand expierence
Okay not really quicksand, but slick mud works probably just as worse.
A little story from my day at work, when I was doing survey at a construction site in the Czech Republic.
Yeah I visited my neighbor country for work reasons, damn its so cold and windy there.
So it was like ~11 o clock and a few degree below the freezing point when I was walking around with my instrument along a mound of earth, the ground was mostly frozen and rock hard. Just then I stepped into a more muddy piece of it, not thinking anything worse. I have waterproof and solid working shoes =P so getting dirty is part of my business.
Just then I instantly sunk with my entire boot into the ground and at the try to pull it out again, my other foot sunk in as well.
Every little movement just made it worse and I ended up sinking knee deep into the mud before it got solid from the pressure again o.o Just now I couldn't get out anymore, the mud was enclosing my feet and blocking the way up.
In a situation like that you feel pretty helpless >.> I couldn't get out anymore by own strength and my coworker had nothing better to do than laughing about it before he realized I was serious about being stuck. He left to get a shovel to help me out, but I already got way better help already incoming.
The other worker saw that I was stuck and came to help me... with a giant excavator.
My luck... because my legs were soaked with the cold mud. First they suggested that I cling onto the shovel and they pull me out, but that wasn't a good idea as my feet were being entirely trapped and enclosed by mud. So the driver started to carefully shovel the mud away from the side of my feet until I could somehow pull it out again. Was pretty risky as he could have accidentally catch my foot and pull it along.
But yeah I was free again, cold and full of dirt =P
The workers were pretty friendly and helped me right away, which was cool. Still my coworker came back way too late with the shovel as I was already free again.
Right now I can laugh about it again, but it was pretty uncomfortably inside... and cold.
Also I know now that any movie that features someone pulling oneself out of quicksand with a rope is incredible unrealistic :O
