Australia Day jumps the shark - odd video
14 years ago
So this Thursday it's "Australia Day", or as some people seem to have taken to calling it "Invasion Day". To those of you not in the know it's a patriotic celebration on the day the First Fleet arrived and the British monarchy took control of the Eastern Seaboard.
It's a day off work here in Australia and there are usually fireworks and bbqs and people cranking Australian music and driving around with little Australian flags waving from the side of their cars ( http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/wes.....1bbd94060aa016 ). It's also a day a lot of us stop and listen to the top 100 songs voted in by people around Australia from the past year, which is pretty awesome even to a non musical person like me.
Anyway one odd thing about this holiday is a footballer named Sam Kekovich who apparently is famous. Not being into sports I couldn't tell you why or how or anything. What I do know is that since I was a young kid once a year he appears on our Television giving a stirring speach about what it means to be Australian (Other than living in Australia of course) and why that means we should eat lamb. It's an odd thing but it's become a tradition.
This year it's taken a rather odd turn...

It would seem whatever marketing firm they use has decided "You know what's hip and down these days? Viral videos." which firstly shows that they still think hip and down are relevent and secondly kind of missed the point of viral videos.
So this video... I can't help but wonder what exactly was going through their heads really. It's not like the song was Australian to begin with, they threw in a rap for reasons I can't really recognize Mr Kekovich frankly can't hold a tune. It's trying to become viral but really just comes across as trying way to damn hard.
But hey here I am talking about it so I guess it's achieved it's purpose. Or has it? I don't feel especially tempted to go out and eat some lamb now (And i love my roast lamb).

I'm assuming they're attempting to count views only within Aus. Honestly it was REALLY NOT DIFFICULT to find the alternate posting :3
