Busy forever
I've been crazy busy with work the past few weeks and its only going to get busier. The model shop I work for does this awesome project every year that requires a ton of work but is the most fun ever. This is my third year working on it and I've been promoted to doing some sculpting, which is a BIG deal. And I'm also going to be the primary mold-maker which means I get to make 30+ molds and cast 50+ parts out of each of those molds. Aside from that I also get to paint THOUSANDS of parts getting intricate paint jobs. I'll be covered in paint/silicone/resin/clay/foam for the next 4 or 5 months... I love my job. I wish I could post pictures of what I'm working on because its so AWESOME. Darn non-disclosure agreements... =(
I don't have as much time to work on my personal projects like reptile replica work now. I come home and usually just want to relax, not spend the last few hours of the day doing what I've been doing at work for 8-10 hours already. But I'm still planning on making more awesome stuff soon including little resin charms of birds and eventually other animals. I made bird ornaments for some of my coworkers and family as a test run and they came out great. I'll post pictures soon. I'm also attempting to get a crow partial made before Califur in June. I made a resin blank and wore it on Halloween but haven't foamed and furred it yet. I need to get it done so I can run around and be a dumb bird.
So many awesome projects to do... no time to do them...

can I ask what kind of silicone you use for your production molds? I'm beginning to think that I'm not getting as many pulls from my molds as I could with another silicone... I use smooth-on's mold max xls2
The place I work for primarily uses GI-1000 from Silicones-Inc. which we've had pretty good success with considering how much abuse some of our molds take. The number of pulls varies depending on how the mold was made, how much we have to stretch it to get the cast out, and if extra catalyst/accelerator has been added but I've gotten over 50 pulls from some molds. It lasts a long time too, I still have the first mold I ever made 3 years ago and it hasn't deteriorated at all. One of my coworkers said that if you catalyze it at 8% instead of 10% it lasts even longer but I have yet to test this. I'm going to start the production molds next week and then will be casting from them for 2+ weeks after that, I'll take notes on how the molds hold up and let you know. I haven't used Mold Max xls2 yet but I have a sample of it and I feels pretty similar to GI-1000.
