Thoughts on the Derpy controversy

I have added the following paragraph to the description of my picture "Derpy Thunder." I decided to also post it in a journal because frankly, this subject has given me a lot to think about personally and artistically, and I wanted to just make sure my thoughts on this were made clear:
I would never take down a piece of artwork as long as there is someone out there who appreciates it, but given the current controversy surrounding Derpy's appearance in The Last Roundup, I have to admit that I now feel like kind of an ass for making this picture. Often with FiM, there are moments where I'm not sure how to feel at first, but end up growing on me later. Derpy's scene with Rainbow Dash is one of those moments. It surprised me at first to hear how the character sounded, but I would NEVER ask them to change her just because a few people were unfortunately and unintentionally offended.

I'm tempted to go make posts agreeing with the people who think it's dumb to be mad about her... for the reason of, "Because I LOVE making fun of the handicapped! How can you want to ban that?! It's hilarious! Trololololol!"
...yeah but in all seriousness the entire thing is ridiculous. Sigh. -_-
I mean, yeah, I was surprised at how she was portrayed initially. So I drew a stupid little picture, read about the behind-the-scenes stuff that went on, re-watched the scene a few times, and now I'm fine with it. But the people who complained directly to Hasbro, the people who got the episode pulled from iTunes and got the character's name removed by WeLoveFine, are completely incapable of any critical thought beyond their initial knee-jerk reaction. These people could potentially undo all of the effort by Studio B, who basically did this as a love letter to the fan community in the first place. I really don't know what else to say.
