Film Discussion: TiMER (spoilers!)

With many movies of this type (Romantic Comedy), the success is measured less in how unique it is, and more if you're attracted to any of the leads. It's a plus if everything is put together not only adequately, but with actual artistry. Though the idea was clever, a lot of the movie was spent with me ogling the drummer because he was cute and surely anyone would be lucky to hang out with such a nice guy. Some of the jokes were funny, but I wasn't really connecting with the lead much besides her perpetual singleness. By the end of the film however, when it turned out she got the TiMER removed AND she wasn't going out with the drummer... I appreciated the bittersweet ending because it appealed, again, to my singleness and depression. This is one of those rom-coms you show to friends who are too chipper and they think it's right as rain all the way through, until getting closer to The Notebook of an ending than How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.
The icing for me, though a minor thing, was how a beautiful song from Iron and Wine I'd only heard once and forgotten about many years ago played at the end. For those of you interested in hearing it in full, here ya go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8aPyBr-_S0
Overall I'd give the film a 7, because it was well made and the TiMER aspect was interesting, though I probably won't remember much about this movie besides the ending and the song.
*The whole soundtrack was filled with indie music, which felt kinda weird, except of course for the final tune.

This is kind of a weird one for me because I really don't ever watch this type of movie so I really doing have anything to compare it too and I don't know if it was a good or bad romantic comedy. I didn't really connect with the leads and I found the sister character to be kind of grating. I do like that they threw off the romantic comedy formula right at the end after following it throughout the movie, and the Iron and Wine song was much appreciated.
