I don't mind the music. I like and enjoy it quite a bit.
But I wouldn't say it's taking over. It's just one of the many sub-groupings of goth that's just simply getting bigger than other sub-groupings. No way it could climb it's way to being the umbrella genre over the others.
I wouldn't say it's taking over Goth. As far as music goes, they are two distinct types although at times they may be combined into a hybrid of sorts. As far as subculture and subculture fashion goes, I think that it's like a Venn diagram. While they are two distinct subcultures with their own fashion, there is most certainly some overlap. This overlap is even to the point where it seems like its very own subculture although it is merely a hybrid of the two and their respective fashions and trends.
Wouldn't say taking over, but there are trends that shift and change and the rising prominance of EBM within the subculture seems to be such a case. I don't think trad goth will go away, nor will EBM subsume all gothic music. I do agree Khris's explanation of it.
For what it is worth, I prefer EBM over traditional gothic, because I find it better to dance. In some ways, my sense of fashion also reflects that somewhat.
