I think being a furry can mean different things to different people with those fully into the fandom being folks who have no trouble openly expressing their "fur side" by wearing fur suits publicly and creating a fursona. There are going to be folks in the middle who have created a fursona in their mind and hang out with people with similar interests though these folks probably do not have fursuits or actually have an interest to live like a fur. On the opposite side of the fursuiters are going to be folks who are closeted about their interest in the furry fandom and who are at most like furry art but will not go beyond being a watcher.

In short, as I am sure you have seen going around this place furs can be all sorts of people with different viewpoints on how to be a fur. There is no right or wrong answer in my view in how one should be a fur anymore than trying to find out how high is up. Do what you feel is comfortable, and far be it for anyone to tell you how to be a "fur" especially when there are many ways to answer that question.
