FWA: Boardgame journal
General
Well, one of my major purposes of FWA is to play a great many boardgames. This year was no exception and while my staffly duties prevented me from playing many of them, it did allow me to 'GM' some and to see some others in action. In no particular order, is my review of most of the games I can remember.
Jenga: I played half a game with Lucca, then accidentally gave it to some suiters who did a fantastic job of it, given their giant paws. Also, it was fun. They weren't the only suiters to try "normal" Jenga and all those who tried seemed to have a good time.
Giant Fursuiter Jenga: This was a hit and I hope we bring it back next year. All the suiters seemed to have a good time and no one was hurt. We even managed to save
char's camera!
Betrayal at the House on the Hill: This co-op/competitive game seemed very popular and the tournament was a huge success with 12 people showing up, and at least 4 more having to be turned away. If we do it again next year, I think we should probably limit it to a few scenario's or everyone using the same scenario. I wonder if we could do some furry based scenarios, hmmmm...you've been turned into a giant balloonie dragon and have balloonify all your friends before they flee the house. :) I only got to play once, but did 2 or 3 teaching games where I "GM'ed" by reading the cards to the players which I think really helps build the suspense because you don't know may happen to you when you make your roll. Apparently, my effort was appreciated because I heard someone saying how cool it was that I did that for them. *wags* always nice to be appreciated.
Battlestar Galatica: I hate this game. Its not the game's fault, I'm just rarely a cylon and the game is much funner when you're a cylon. Its not a bad game, in fact, its pretty good thematically, I just never watched BSG and space isn't really my favorite theme. I did enjoy playing it with Dante, Peach Hunter, and Reinholdt, though.
Aye Dark Overlord: I'd heard of this game, but to see it played was outstanding. I knew I had to have it for our OOTSCON group. Everyone playing was hysterical and having a blast. Sadly, I didn't get to experience it myself.
Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot: Another one I taught twice, but never got to play. I did used to play it quite a bit and it is a fun game, but its unique play style makes it difficult to learn, so I was happy to help teach it. Hehe. "A moment of silence for the bunny." Now that I think about it, Sesame still owes Lucca a game because he made her play........
Kittens in a Blender: What a horrible theme to go with such a fun game. Its light, easy to learn, quick to play, and morbidly fun. I played it once and saw it played two other times, so I'd call that a hit. Its a little hard to get a good strategy going, but its not supposed to be a complex game. Just try to get your kitties in the box and keep them out of a blender.
We didn't playtest this at all: This is the ultimate "what am I gonna do for 5 minutes" game. I convinced many groups to play it while waiting for the game they wanted to play to open up. It does greatly enhance the experience when added with "We Didn't Playtest This Either"
Resident Evil; DBG: You know what would make Dominion better? Zombies and shotguns! This was a game I brought to the con and was thrilled to see it hit the table at least 4 times!
Arkham Horror: Another game I GM'ed but didn't get to/have to play. I didn't need to teach it so much as help set it up and refresh the memories of a few of the players. I do love the game, but it takes up too much time for a con game.

I don't know what you mean. *smiles* well, maybe a little. Gotta keep the scenarios interesting after all, and it doesn't get more interesting than you.

By "Another Betrayal Tournament" you must of course mean, "A tournament of a game that is completely different from Betrayal in every sense of the word, like Parcheesi or Gamma World". Right? ...Right?

I'm working on trying to find more games that suiters can play in the game room. Although Apples to Apples seems like the easiest outside of the specially designed Jenga game.

lol i was frustated because the cards were hard for me to manipulate with wearing my paws. then again maybe soemone with more expeince might not have the rouble i did with the cards. from experince the jenga and the dice game was easy. once i had someone place the dice in my paws lol
