Being Talented is no reason to be a Jerk
Good art is a crap shield for being intolerable, and "If you don't like it, don't click it" is not a cover-all for posting whatever you damn well please, particularly when it has a high chance of upsetting people.
I was going to expound on this, but there's really no reason to. People don't come here to be preached at.
But I will say, that in many ways, FA is in a sorry state of affairs. The social side of this site is cruel and maladaptive, and I'm sorry for whatever I may do to perpetuate it.
I just came here to try and make good friends.
(You know the saddest thing about this journal? Is that I need 1,500 watchers and 30k pageviews to post it)

ontopic, i have to say i agree, thought people will steady defend themselves by saying "It's just how i Am."
Treating "The Person I Am" like it somehow makes your differences a matter that is not up for discussion doesn't work in real life, and it shouldn't work here. For example: If you fantasize about murdering specific people to the point of sexualizing it, and then create a highly detailed image to the effect, and then post it...
At what step were things outside your control?
But yes, some people DO take things way too seriously, on both sides of the fence. There are a lot of hard feelings from one group to another, and a lot of condescension from the so-called "Haves" to the "Have nots." Similarly, there's a lot of complaining from the people who produce very little.
That's the thing. Regardless of your talent. Regardless of posted content. Being petty, mean, selfish, and downright awful is never acceptable.
What gets me is how much of those sentiments are expressed artistically, as well.
But seriously, I would like to hope things get better, but in the end, we're still human.
Personally, I'm no artist, but I have great respect for them. I can't understand why some people would feel "entitled" so much when it comes to this stuff.
"Compromise" isn't a bad word. But maybe I'm getting off topic... :x
It sucks to see how some artist are like this to people. I tend to find them very picky of who to hang.
They sure have grown such nasty attitudes, but least some are very cool people though.
There are some absolutely wonderful people here, as well as some people who could be wonderful if you just took the time and patience to help them. But I find that most of them are either unpopular, untalented, or are very popular, but fear the backlash that can come from stating an/any issue that has become more or less completely obvious.
As to the other point, plenty of disturbing images are posted without mature tags. Just because it's not smut doesn't mean it can't be upsetting.
Some people are legitimately bothered by some of the content that shows up here. And you know what? Their feelings are just as valid as those of the people who created it. Just because one side made an image does not mean the difference of opinion automatically defaults to them, and this isn't a land war.
We're a social species. When we see something that causes us emotional distress, we want to solve it. "If you don't like it, don't click it," while a valid argument under a lot of circumstances, does not automatically mean the other party is no longer a human being.
My problem is that: Person A puts up a piece of work.
Person B clicks it because they are curious, and there isn't a warning thumbnail. They find that the subject matter is disturbing to them.
Person B posts "I don't like things that involve [theme]"
What can person A do to respond? "Well, I'm sorry you don't like [theme]."?
"My apologies, I'll make sure to not make anything else referencing [theme]."?
I get that "Well you shouldn't have clicked" is a rude and off-putting response. But frankly, when someone's opening statement is how they are offended by a major theme of the work, there isn't anywhere for that conversation to go.
And...I personally see nothing wrong with "I'm sorry you don't like this piece."
Admittedly, this specific matter is one that demands compromise, but when a piece is posted having a high likelihood for backlash, and done blatantly...I dunno, it feels like the first insult hurled wasn't that of the commenter.
Posting shock images or something for the backlash is rude. But it's all about intention at that point, and it can be hard to judge if someone's posting just to freak people out or because they genuinely want to share with others / have people that want to see the piece on its own merits.
And that confession really does make me less than qualified to talk about this subject.
Thank you for your input, though!
There are exceptions, inversions, and all other amalgamations of this. But it just seems that, by and large, the waters of FA can become very unwelcoming and defensive.
But it does take some initiative, sadly, and leaving your own bubble of friends can be daunting. Thanks for your input.
The enmity here on FA can be palpable sometimes, and that just bothers me.
people will alweys be an ass , big artists or avange users , some are less some are more
A good, thoughtfully made thumbnail that pertains to the content and quality of the actual piece is ideal. How else can a stranger tell if they'll like it or not? The description maybe, if they're not browsing on a tablet...
I honestly see don't see many deceptive thumbnails, personally, except when it's writers. Writers seem to have quite a habit for ganking whatever they like as a lure to their work. As to thumbnails that give no idea to either content nor quality? I...never click them. I've seen enough stuff on FA to know that 99% of the time, if you're not showing any meaningful hints, the piece is likely going to be garbage.
On that note, do my thumbnails deceive? I feel like they give a good idea of what's going on...
I, for exemple, don't let myself be upset with bad comments. I always say: "If there are haters, there a lovers". I know i'm not a talented artist but i'm here to show what i can do. If people take it really serious, ok! I respect them. And respect is a 2 way road.
