Welcome to the Journal of OtakuMan24 Game Player. Hope you're ready for rants and ravings on video games and other miscellaneous topics.
PeterandCompany is doing a KickStarter to have their webcomic made into an animated series! Click here to learn more and show your support! An interesting concept came to my attention not that long ago, and it's one that might explain a few things as well as forecast possible new trends in the future.
Let me begin by telling you about a man named Benedict Cumberbatch (yes, that IS his real name).
Benedict Cumberbatch is an actor, and currently a sort of heart-throb. Currently, he is not very well known outside of his native territory, the United Kingdom, but he is gradually wooing ladies left and right by the dozens.
And this is what he looks like:
(He's the brunette on the left, btw)
Now wait a second, you may be thinking...
THIS guy with his gaunt cheekbones, unkempt curly hair, and overcoat that covers just about everything below his chin is a heart-throb?! What's he been in?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benedict_Cumberbatch
He plays Sherlock Holmes, Victor Frankenstein and his creation, and also played a young Stephen Hawking in a docu-drama?! And THIS is the guy that's winning the hearts of ladies across the world?
Oh yes he is! Just ask Meghan O'Keefe, who wrote this article and confesses to creating her own "Cumbernest" for whenever he's on TV:

You might now be scratching your head and wondering how this is possible?
He's not overly muscular, in fact he's rather skinny.
He's not overly handsome and his fashion sense is kind of weird.
His voice doesn't seem to fit his own body, it's much deeper than you would expect.
So what is it the ladies like in him?
It hit me when I watched Episode 4 of the smash hit "Sherlock" when the character of Irene Adler says to Sherlock, "Intelligence Is The New Sexy."
A glance over at DeviantArt also seems to solidify this statement. Just look what people have been drawing over there:

And that's just the tip of the ice berg, and don't even get me started on the Slash art there too.
If you ever watch him perform, you realize that he is absolutely brilliant as an actor. He exudes an aura of authority, plays smart, intelligent, sharp roles, and is overall rather "weird". It becomes clear that it's his brain that ladies (and some guys too) are falling head over heels for.
So why am I mentioning this here on a furry art site of all places?
I mention it because if it's true that "Intelligence Is The New Sexy", then it definitely has yet to hit the furry community. You're more than likely to come across characters with chests the size of hot-air balloons (and this holds true for both female AND male characters), genitalia the size of sewer-piping, and muscles and machismo out the ying-yang. This is all fantasy art and frankly quite harmless art at that, but in real life, these fantasies just wouldn't work.
I think
ritts put it best in this comic strip here:

Sure it's fun to wish you were some demigod sex machine that has a harem of scantily clad, big-bosomed women, or a sky-scraper sized giant that enjoys the feel of helpless masses underneath your pinky toe, or maybe a tiny person going spelunking through your beloved's digestive tract. But at the end of the day, these are all just fantasies and nothing more because they don't exist. Still, the reason people have these fantasies is likely because they THINK that it's what OTHERS want. Guys think women will want big, macho, muscular men with fire hose penises, and Gals think men will want big boobied, hour-glass figures with flowing hair, pouty lips, and bodies to die for.
Benedict Cumberbatch flies in the face of ALL those conceptions. He is attractive, but not in the way that people may think attractiveness is supposed to work.
And I think that's something the furry community should take note of. If more people draw characters that are more realistic, more intelligent, and more down-to-Earth, then it's possible that the conceptions people have on what's sexy might prove to be MISconceptions.
So if you feel like you're not attractive because you're not a macho sex-god or hottie sex-goddess, then have I got good news for you:

Also, he looks like an otter.
Although it'd also be awesome if you had Matt Smith with Benedict Cumberbatch or Martin Freeman as companions. Oohhh... or the Doctor could be in Victorian London, and go on an adventure with Arthur Conan Doyle, played by, you guessed it, Benedict!
That would be all kinds of awesome!
...and those otters do look a lot like him!
I looked at the still image of the Sherlock guy and it's no surprise to me -- that is one version of the iconic form of an intellectual. Maybe if I knew about him I would like him. I hope it is real intelligence and not the appearance of it. The form of an intellectual alone I am suspicious of, since often the intelligence isn't actually there.
