Macromail Project & Update

{Update}
Today I made a bunch of progress on my macromail, I got the last 20' of rebar bent into rings, bringing me to a grand total of 65 rings. The handheld bandsaw I'm using makes closing them a lot easier than if I torch cut them so it shouldn't take long to assemble. Below are a few pictures from today!

I thought I'd give an update on what I am working on since I've never done one before!
Today I started my latest project which I have dubbed Macromail. It is going to be a 2-3 foot wide
sheet of chainmail made out of 1/2" rebar coiled into 2 1/4" diameter rings.
I plan to hang it from a steel plate that can be mounted on the wall.
The reason I decided to start this project is that I was nominated for a 3-dimensional art award
at my university and can submit one piece to a gallery show of all the students who won awards.
So I thought to myself, why not make something ridiculous out of metal? It wouldn't be the first time.
The one catch is that the gallery submissions are due by Thursday. That means that I am
going to be spending a lot of time in a metal shop over the next couple of days.
So today, with the help of my dad (thanks again dad!) I spent 8 hours gathering materials, torching,
bending, and cutting 30 feet of rebar into the rings you can see over here.
Here is what 10 feet of rebar looks like all coiled around a pipe.
Aside from my new project I have been trying to get up more work and examples of
the different weaves I have available. After I finish my macromail I am going to put together
a pricing image to make it easier for people to see if they want to commission me. (wait? Commission you? lol!)
Anyways keep an eye out for more updates on my project,
I should have finished pictures by the end of the week!
